4 Kenai Peninsula Borough Page 1/2 Advisory Planning Commissioner Application Supplementary Answer Sheet - Mike Cooney, Moose Pass How long have you lived in the area served by this planning commission? Since What knowledge, experience, or expertise will you bring to this commission? Since 1979, I have worked continuously in the field of natural resource management in various regions of Alaska, and in both the public and private sectors. As a government employee, private forestry consultant, registered guide and member of the public I have gained an appreciation and basic working knowledge of land and resource management principals, the public process, and the varied missions of public, private/corporate, trust and governmental entities. In various capacities, I have participated in formal planning processes related to native corporation, trust, and public owned lands and resources, including those managed by local, state and federal agencies. What are the land use planning issues in your community? The community of Moose Pass contains private properties, both commercial and residential, located along the Seward Highway corridor, which are effectively surrounded by public lands, waters and resources managed mostly by the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the State of Alaska, and the U. S. Forest Service. Land planning issues that both interest and affect Moose Pass residents are often those related to the planning, development, disposal, disposition, allocation, maintenance and use of nearby public lands, waters, resources and transportation infrastructure. What would you like to see done with Borough owned lands in your area? KPB owned lands near Moose Pass should be professionally managed in accordance with Borough code and all other applicable Law, and with established and recognized land, water and resource management principals and practices. Decisions regarding Borough owned lands and resources should respectfully consider and necessarily give great weight to the values, ideas, concerns and recommendations of local residents as expressed in the community comprehensive plan, through testimony at public meetings and through direct correspondence, s and other communications. To the
