FOREST POLICY Forest Policy Statement P1 Name: Revised master plan for forestry development (sustainable forest management, poverty alleviation and food security in upland communities in the Philippines) Date of endorsement: 2003 by (governmental body): The Plan was accepted by the DENR and endorsed for adoption by the Philippine Cabinet and National Economic and Development Authority Additional information (if any) P1.Inf The Revised Master Plan will be reviewed regularly. The first review shall be in 2010 and to be repeated every 5 years thereafter. The review and revision process will be participatory involving multi stakeholders. It may concentrate on the whole plan or only on components needing revision and amendments. 2 Main objectives of the Forest Policy P2 The long term goal of the Philippine National Forest Policy is to enhance the contribution of the forestry sector to the country s ecology and economy. It is now seen as a formal and comprehensive statement which provides a conceptual framework, and clear objectives for forestry development as well as basis of implementing programs, projects and activities. Main guiding principles or instruments for policy implementation The policy imperatives include sustainability, efficiency and peoples participation. P3 Additional information (if any) P3. People-oriented development is anchored on putting people first and sustainable forestry will follow. Participation is seen as a means and ends in development.
