On Sunday, Dimas and his family went to visit her grandmother. Grandmother s house in the Jangkurang village. They brought enough supplies. When they arrived at their usual meal, was surprised the family. Lush forests that have been razed to the ground. Dimas asked his father, Why are the trees cut down? Where the birds are usually flying in that place? His father answered, maybe this place will be residential complex. The Animals moved to other places because their home is lost. In addition to deforestation, what are the human activities that disrupt the environmental equilibrium? Which part is often used of animals and plants? Is the use of animals and plants that can affect the environmental equilibrium? To find the answer, study the following descriptions. Logging and poaching Development Disposal and waste Poaching for their skin Deforestation Development villa on the hills smoke and forest fire Human Activities that Affect the Source : 2.bp.blogspot.com 2

Picture 2. Animals together trinking in a fountain Source : in a meadow, a few groups of Animals lived. Living things that live in grasslands is grass, grass-eating animals, and meateating animals. At the time of drought, water resources will dry up. Food supply for grazing animals would be gone. This will affect the ecological balance. If the grass out, grass-eating animals will run out of food and will not survive. If there is no grass-eating animals, meat-eating animals would not survive. The situation occurs when the balance of environment disturbed. In addition to natural factors, the circumstances that greatly affects the balance of the ecosystem is the presence and human activity. With reason and mind, man will easily transform an environment. The result is an imbalance occurs and the damage to the environment. A. The Human Activities that Affect The In running their lives, people need three main things. The basic need is food, clothing, and shelter. All human needs are available in nature. God allows man to cultivate this nature with the best. With its human sciences, to develop various technologies to meet their needs. However, human is never satisfied, many of human using technology they are made, in an uncontrolled manner. Human impact of the environmental balance and what happens in the future. Here are some human activities that can alter the environmental balance. 1. Logging and Poaching Whether there is a forest in your neighborhood? How it is? Forests are the lungs of the earth. Forest is where the infiltration and soil water reserves for the life of living creatures on earth. In addition, the forest is home and shelter most living things. If the trees in the forest cut down for industrial and agricultural land clearing and excessive logging, will affect the life that existed before. The result is reduced water catchment areas, and reduced oxygen supply. In addition, animals in the forest will lose their homes and food sources. Moreover, the illegal poaching, will further damage the environment. 3

Development activities Construction of roads through the woods can be damaging to the environment. The trees are source of food and shelter of animals harvested so that the animal is endangered. Figure 5 on the side, showing the construction of villas on the hills. This activity is disturbing the environmental balance. Areas around the hills can be affected by disasters, like floods and landslides. Oil drilling and open mining of mineral will cause environmental damage. Oil drilling and open mining can reduce the natural resources and pollute the surrounding area. As a result of these activities is difficult to overcome and lead to an unproductive area. Picture 6. 5 3. Polusi dan Sampah Picture 7. Air Pollution Source : Picture 8. The dead fishes in the polluted river Source : Most of the human activities carried out would result in pollution. Ranging from household waste, agriculture, pollution, until the industrial waste. Anyone know, for example household waste, agriculture, pollution, and industrial waste? The plastic used for packaging are examples of household waste. Pesticides if used excessively can be agricultural waste. Traffic fumes are polluting of transportation. The existing garbage and waste that is easily broken down and some are difficult to decipher. If the waste is not done properly, that there is environmental damage. Have you ever seen the river is dirty and smelly? It is industrial waste and sewage into the river. The result is damage to the river environment and will kill any living things in the river. Figure 8 shows a dead fish from polluted rivers they occupy. 5

Questions 1. Why the use of pesticides can affect the environmental equilibrium? 2. Why the existence of the forest is so important to environmental equilibrium? 3. What are some activities that can improve environmental conditions that have been damaged? 6

Pertanyaan 4. Mention the body part of animals are often used for human purposes? 5. What animal could harm to the farmers when it continue to be hunted? Explain! 6. Why the use of plants that are not controlled can damage the environment? 7
