3 Introduction Summary This report was prepared for the reason for the report is for the demolition of the current dwelling at 1909 Lakeshore Rd, Niagara on the Lake and the construction of 4 new homes on the property. This report outlines the current conditions of the trees that are within 6m of the alterations and provides recommendations for their removal as well as recommendations for their preservation. In addition the report shows the appraised value of the municipally owned trees. These appraisals were done in accordance with current arboriculture standards. A site visit was completed on February 22, Use of the Report This report is intended to be used by the property owner(s) to help them plan for proper maintenance of their trees both throughout the proposed project and in the future. It may also be reviewed by the separate contractors (Landscape Architect, Arborist, Construction contractor etc.) involved in the proposed alteration. Observations Please see the tree inventory for all on site/tree observations. Recommendations Trees 5, 8 and 10 - remove these 3 trees due to their current condition as well as them being infested with the Emerald Ash Borer. The infestation is beyond treating the trees due to the excessive bark flaking in the canopy and the dieback within the crown. I don t feel that their current condition warrants their protection and feel that replacing them would be more beneficial in the longterm. Trees 6 and 7 - remove these 2 trees due to their current declining condition. I don t feel that their current condition warrants their protection and feel that replacing them would be more beneficial in the longterm. REPORT LAKESHORE RD, NOTL!3

4 Tree 4 - remove this tree due to its location. The tree is located within the footprint of the proposed driveway for the home to be built off of Bayberry Lane. I ve suggested removal since the tree is small enough that it is easy to remove and replant a new tree rather than transplant it. However if the contractor would rather transplant this should also be acceptable. To improve the site once the construction is completed replacement trees should be installed at a rate of 1:1 to replace the loss of trees on the site. This means that 5 trees should be installed assuming that the Tree 4 is transplanted. If this tree is in fact removed than it should also be replaced. The new trees should be between 45mm and 60mm nursery stock trees. I would suggest planting hardy shade trees. Suitable species would be: Oak, Maple, or Tulip tree. A Cedar hedge would also suffice. Trees 1, 2, and 3 - preserve these 3 municipal trees and protect their root system with hoarding. The hoarding should be installed 1m from the tree s trunks. Tree 9 - preserve this tree and protect their root system with hoarding. The hoarding should be installed 4.2m from the tree s trunk. Please see the Tree Protection Diagram on page 15 of this report for a description of the recommended hoarding. For a visual representation on where the hoarding should be installed please see the Tree Preservation Plan, however please note the tree s canopies and hoarding are not drawn to scale. 16 Limits of Assignment/Investigation The investigation included a visual assessment of the above ground features of the trees on February 22, 2017; no climbing inspections were performed or deemed necessary. The recommendations have been put forth on the basis of root flare, trunk, stem, and scaffold branch assessment and their interdependent nature. To ensure that the client knows what is technically and professionally realistic in preserving trees, I have included this clause regarding limitations. The trees presented in this report were assessed using conventional arboricultural techniques. This includes a visual examination of all the above ground parts of the tree. In this visual examination arborists look for scars, defects, external indications of decay (i.e. Fungal fruiting bodies), evidence of attack by insects, discoloured foliage, the conditions of any visible root structures, the degree and direction of lean (if applicable), the general condition of the tree and surrounding area and the nearness of property and people. Unless otherwise stated the trees have not been cored, probed, climbed and there was no detailed inspection completed of the root crowns. Trees are living organisms that are susceptible to changes in health and vitality at any time. They are not immune to the changes in site condition or seasonal variations in weather conditions. Trees will always pose some risk to surrounding property or persons. Only complete removal of all trees would eliminate all risk, as such the arborist cannot be liable for any damages caused in whole or in part by tree failure. Most trees have the potential for failure in extreme weather and that risk can only be eliminated if the tree is removed. Sensible efforts have been made to ensure that the trees listed as priority two and three are healthy from a visual stand point. Implementation of the report is the responsibility of the client and Arborwood Tree Service Inc. does not hold any responsibility to ensure that the recommendations provided herein are followed.
