1 The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare s Flagship Programme of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA) aiming at doubling farmers income (DFI) by 2022, is being implemented in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. KRISHI KALYAN ABHIYAN Aspiration District of Virudhunagar Report on Implementation Process Virudhunagar district is one among 111 aspiration districts identified for implementing Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA). The action plan comprising 10 specific identified activities under Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW), Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries (DAHD&F) and Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE- ICAR) is being implemented to saturate the identified 25 villages in Virudhunagar district from to The implementation of KKA is going on successfully with full cooperation and support of all the line departments in carrying out the activities specified in action plan for Virudhunagar district. The ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu is located at Kovilangulam on the Madurai Tuticorin highway. It was established in the year 2006 with the objective of Technology transfer in Agriculture and allied field. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Virudhunagar is acting as a nodal coordinating centre to implement the KKA Programme and also update various activities relating to KKA in KVK portal on daily basis. Shri Vijay Rajmohan, Director (Trade), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi reviewed the implementation of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Programme in Virudhunagar District at Madurai Collectorate on Shri Vijay Rajmohan, Director (Trade), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has been monitoring on a daily basis the progress made in implementation of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan in Virudhunagar District of Tamil Nadu. With the guidance and direction of Shri Vijay Rajmohan from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, KKA programme is being successfully implemented in Virudhunagar District. 4 Distribution of Soil Health Card Department of Agriculture under the supervision of Joint Director of Agriculture, Virudhunagar district has distributed 2209 soil health cards (SHC) to farmers so far in nine villages and another set of 4096 SHCs is planned to be distributed in remaining villages. During one day training being conducted in villages identified in the action plan for Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan, Agriculture Department Official have also been explaining the relevance and use of soil health card in taking right decisions suited to soil health status. 6 [ Distribution of Seedlings Department of Horticulture has distributed fruit seedlings such as mango, guava, pappaya and acid lime to 200 beneficiary farmers at Kattangudi village and Velayuthapuram village, Aruppukottai Block of Virudhunagar district. Preparatory work relating to distribution of fruit seedlings to farmers in remaining villages is underway. Department of Horticulture, Virudhunagar district has prepared and distributed a special booklet on horticultural crop cultivation practices to the beneficiary farmers in aspiration villages identified under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Programme. 8 Bovine Artificial Insemination Status Department of Animal Husbandry has administered artificial insemination through use of high yielding indigenous breeds semen for quality AI delivery at farmers doorstep to 432 bovines belonging to 395 beneficiary farmers of the aspiration villages identified during KKA programme till date as seen in the tabular form across the villages. Artificial insemination of Bovines shall be saturated in aspiration villages of Virudhunagar district within the stipulated time. 9 Distribution of Agriculture Implements [ Department of Agriculture Engineering has identified 350 beneficiaries in 25 aspiration villages. In one day training conducted by KVK Virudhunagar, Department of Agriculture Engineering has been giving hands-on training on agricultural implements to participant farmers. 10 KVK Training on Bee-Keeping Training on Bee-Keeping is being conducted to generate additional farm income in each aspiration village by KVK Virudhunagar. KVK has completed training on bee-keeping in 12 villages as per the schedule of calendar approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. An effort is made to have due representation of women and SC/ST farmers among participants as seen from the table given below. 11 KVK Training on Mushroom Cultivation Training on Mushroom Cultivation is being conducted to multiply farm income through exploiting the growing demand for mushroom in each aspiration village by KVK Virudhunagar. The training was completed in 12 villages as per the schedule of calendar approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 12 KVK Training on Kitchen Garden Training on Kitchen Garden is being conducted in each aspiration village by KVK Virudhunagar. The training has been focusing on highlighting of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. nutritional benefits of home grown organic vegetables and generating additional farm household income out of marketing vegetables in excess of home requirements. 13 KVK Training on Vermicompost Training on Vermicompost is being conducted in each aspiration village by KVK Virudhunagar. The training has been focusing on organic farming and its soil health benefits of sustainable livelihood agriculture thereby producing quality farm produce and generating additional farm income out of exploiting market niche for organic agricultural products. KVK has completed training on vermicompost in 12 villages as per the schedule of calendar approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 14 Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business Activities Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agribusiness Activities has involved in one day village trainings under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Programme to create awareness on marketing of agricultural produce and value additions. Farmers were informed of access to various schemes involving financial assistance to agribusiness. Farmers were asked to form farmer producer groups to ease marketing of their produce and avail credit support from lead bank. Dr. M. 15 KRISHI KALYAN ABHIYAN Aspiration District of Virudhunagar Activities to be Undertaken Making of NADEP Pits Preparatory works for making of 20 NADEP Pits in each of 25 villages are underway. Ten villages are assigned to Department of Agriculture to undertake the NADEP pits and the remaining villages to KVK Virudhunagar. KVK Virudhunagar is planning to take up the task of making 20 NADEP pits in each village of 15 villages. Sheep and Goat Vaccination Status Attempts are made to vaccinate sheep and goat for preventing PPR disease that is of seasonal in nature mainly in endemic areas of 25 aspiration villages identified in the action plan for implementing Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Programme in Virudhunagar District. Micro Irrigation three days training Programme Demonstration on microirrigation system at KVK field is getting ready for giving training to farmers from to Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan to
