1 Arborist Report for 87 & 91 Brookfield & 174 Lakeshore Road West Oakville, ON (July 23, 2013) Tel: , D. Andrew White M. Sc. ISA Certified Arborist ON Marcella St. Toronto, ON, M1G 1L2. 1. Introduction The following is an arborist report for the properties at 87 and 91 Brookfield Road and 174 Lakeshore Road West in Oakville Ontario. The purpose of this report was to ascertain the potential impacts of the proposed construction of a garage on the trees on, and near, the subject site. This report was written for Storybook Services. 2. Methods An on-site inspection was made on October 19, 2012, and July 22, The sizes of individual trees were measured as diameter at breast height (DBH), breast height being 137 cm from ground level. The locations of these trees are indicated on the arborist s plan (Fig. 1). Further details are indicated on the full site plan (Fig. 2). From the data collected plant Condition Rating (CR), Location Rating (LR), Species Rating (SR), and minimum Protection Zones (TPZ), were estimated. 1,2 3. Discussion There are plans to build a new house at Brookfield-Lakeshore development site. In order to allow for the proposed development twelve (12) road allowance trees will need to be removed. The most prevalent roadside tree species over 12 cm DBH is Siberian elm (44.4%), and the second most common species is black walnut (22.2%). (Table 1, Fig. 1). Species DBH DBH DBH % Species > 12 cm > 20 cm > 76 cm DBH > 10cm Crab-apple tree % Birch tree % Siberian Elm % Norway Maple % Mulberry % Black Walnut % Total %

2 There are thirty nine (39) trees over 12 cm DBH, and twenty five (25) private trees over 20 cm DBH, on the subject site. Only one tree, a willow, is over 75 cm DBH. Most of the trees in the central portion of the site would be removed. Norway maple is the most prevalent species (28%) on the site over 20 cm DBH. The second most prevalent species on the site is Scots pine (24%). Less than twenty percent (< 20%) of the property is covered by closed canopy. Some of the trees near the perimeter of the site could potentially be retained (Table 1, Fig. 1). Species DBH DBH DBH % Species > 12 cm > 20 cm > 76 cm DBH > 20cm Apple tree % Trembling Aspen % Crab-apple % Green Ash % White Cedars % Cherries / Plums % Lilac % Honey Locust % Norway Maple % Silver Maple % Mulberry % Scots Pine % Norway Spruce % White Spruce % Black Walnut % Weeping Willow % Total % There are five (5) trees over 12 cm DBH on neighbouring properties that are less than six metres from the subject site. These trees could be retained with a fairly low risk of injury. The most prevalent species on neighbouring properties is white cedar (Table 1, Fig. 1). Species DBH DBH DBH % Species > 12 cm > 20 cm > 76 cm DBH > 12cm White Cedar % Siberian Elm % Norway Maple % Total %

3 3.2 Canopy Cover: The existing site currently has approx sq. m of tree canopy cover, which represents 13% of the total site area. The proposed construction would require the removal of a number of trees, which would result in an approx.. loss of 290 sq. m of tree canopy cover. The new existing canopy cover would therefore by 100 sq. m or approx. 3.5% of the total site. The net loss is approximately 9.5% canopy cover. The current proposed development has made room for greater than 415 sq. m of new canopy, for a new total of 515 sq. m (18%). Therefore the estimated potential increase of canopy cover could be approximately 5% over its current condition. 3.3 Replacement s: Marton Smith Landscape Architects Inc. shall be developing a landscape plan for the Brookfield-Lakeshore development site. The new trees would be of large calliper (50-60 mm) nursery grown stock. The transplanting burlapped or balled trees would be in accord with the Oakville and Halton Region s tree protection bylaws. These trees are to be maintained in good condition. Supplemental watering may be required during the drier periods of the year, especially during the first two or three years. 3,4 4. Conclusions In order to allow for the proposed development of the 87 and 91 Brookfield Road and 174 Lakeshore Road West site, eighteen road allowance trees and twenty five tree private trees over 20 cm DBH could potentially be affected. In addition, there are five trees on neighbouring properties that are less than six metres from the site. D. Andrew White M. Sc. July 23, References 1.
