Moderately resistant to mildew and Septoria spp and limited data suggests it has good resistance to yellow rust. Good milling and baking quality. Moderately resistant to Septoria spp, moderately susceptible to mildew and susceptible to yellow rust. Good milling and baking quality. 9 (100 = % moisture content) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON VARIETIES SUITABLE FOR MALTING As malting and brewing in Ireland is grown under contract, the industry determines the varieties to be grown. Choice of varieties is based on results of malting and brewing tests on varieties included in DAFM trials. Azalea, Sebastian, Propino, Overture, SY Taberna and KWS Irina were accepted malting varieties in Quench is a control variety across all DAFM spring barley trials. Descriptive notes on varieties in the Malting Barley trial but not on the 2015 Spring Barley Recommended List: AZALEA: SEBASTIAN: An early maturing French variety with short straw and very good resistance to lodging. Moderate resistance to straw breakdown. Very good resistance to mildew and Rhynchosporium, good resistantance to brown rust but very susceptible to net blotch. Excellent grain quality. Cross: (Prestige x Saloon) Breeder/Irl Agent: Secobra, Goldcrop Ltd. A Danish variety with short straw and moderate susceptibility to lodging and straw breakdown. Susceptibile to mildew and moderately susceptible to Rhynchosporium and brown rust. Good resistance to net blotch. Cross: (Viskosa x Lux) Breeder/Irl Agent: Sejet, Goldcrop Ltd. OVERTURE: A British variety and the highest yielding non GN variety in the malting trial. Moderately tall straw, moderately susceptibile to lodging and straw breakdown. Very good resistance to mildew, good resistance to net blotch and moderate resistance to Rhynchosporium and brown rust. Small grain size.
