1 199 Landuse / Landcover, 199 Landuse / Landcover Version 21: 9/ 27/ 96 Sources: Most vegetation is taken from the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife's " Actual Vegetation Map, Draft 3" (1/5/95). The map was derived from interpretation of 1:15, scale 1993 color airphotos by Clair Klock. The minimum mapping unit used was approximately 4 acres. Classification accuracy is unknown. Christmas trees, vineyards and orchards were split out from the original aggregated classification based on limited field work (6/96). The forest structure classification by Tom Maiersperger ( State University) from a 1993 Landsat TM scene. Structures were derived from both USGS quadrangles and from parcel data provided by Benton County Planning Dept. All other data was obtained from the 1:24, scale USGS quadrangles for the area. -4 yr Doug fir 41-8 yr Doug fir yr Doug fir 12+ yr Doug fir on Ag-Veg on-treed wetlands - marsh Salem 1/2 mile 1 mile University of the Mid-Willamette Valley, ) with the U.S.

2 MuddyCreek, High Development Landuse / Landcover 225 Version 25: 9/ 27/ 96 High Development Landuse / Landcover 225 Increase of 1152 households concentrated in orthern and Southern Development Zones identified by stakeholders households added in the Southern Development Zone between &. Major crops and practices not significantly different from 199 conditions, except for conversion of some areas to hybrid poplar. Hybrid poplar grown for pulp (short rotation) appears in suitable soils in low elevation former pastureland and grass seed as well as in some riparian wetlands. All forest lands managed on 45 year rotation cycle with 1' riparian buffers. Landuse / Landcover of the Finley ational reflects an increase of grass seed production in former oak and upland deciduous/hardwood. The Upper Hammer Creek is shown as becoming a municipal water supply for and grown 3 years. 3 High Development Landuse / Landcover 225 Moderate Development Landuse / Landcover 225 Version 11: 9/ 27/ 96 Increase of 95 households concentrated in orthern and Southern Development Zones identified by stakeholders. 825 households added in the Southern Development Zone between & and 125 households added to the orthern Development Zone. Major crops and practices not significantly different from 199 conditions, except for conversion of some pasture and grassland areas to hybrid poplar based on suitable soils. All forest lands managed on 4 year rotation cycle with 1' riparian buffers. Approx. 17% in older age classes. Landuse / Landcover of the Finley remains largely unchanged from 199 with the exception of a decrease in upland oak acreage replaced by grass seed. 4 , Plan Trend Landuse / Landcover 225 Version 21: 9/ 27/ 96 Plan Trend Landuse / Landcover 225 Increase of 475 households accommodated entirely within existing Rural 2-5 acre zones. Dominant agricultural uses mostly unchanged from 199. Hybrid poplar appears in suitable soils in low elevation former pastureland. Public lands follow the President's Forest Plan with 15% of eligible lands uncut: 3' riparian buffers, 8 year rotation on remaining "matrix" lands. Private lands follow 1995 Forest Practices Act: 1' stream buffers, with 5 year rotations across all age classes. Late Successional Reserves on BLM land are aged by 4 years. Management of the Wildlife Refuge is assumed to result in no change in Landuse / Landcover. 5 , Moderate Conservation Landuse / Landcover 225 Version 8: 9/ 27/ 96 Moderate Conservation Landuse / Landcover 225 Households increase by 225, all accommodated within existing Rural 2-5 acre zoning. An " Practices Act" similar to the Conservation Reserve Program is established. The act requires 5' undisturbed areas adjacent to streams, with a further 5' in cover crop or secondary forest products. Hybrid poplar occurs in soils of low elevation formerly pastureland and grass seed. Approximately 1/2 of the hybrid poplar will be grown for veneer (15 year rotation) and 1/2 for pulp (7 year rotation). 1' hedgerows/windbreaks are introduced along all paved roads, and line the edges of all grass seed fields. Wetlands appearing in the ational Wetlands Inventory are incorporated near (1') riparian buffers and hedgerows. Peterson Rd. Public forestlands: managed in 12 year rotation cycle with small clearcuts (<5 acres) across all age classes. 3' riparian buffers assumed to be no-entry zones and aged 3 years. Private forestlands: managed in 8 year rotation cycle with small clearcuts (<5 acres) across all age classes. 1' riparian buffers assumed to be no-entry zones and aged 3 years. Beaver Beaver Creek Creek Rd. Rd. President's Forest Plan "Late Sucessional Reserves" aged 3 years. Landuse / Landcover of the Finley changes with the conversion of some grass seed to native prairie. 6 High Conservation Landuse / Landcover 225, High Conservation Landuse / Landcover 225 Version 22: 9/ 27/ 96 Households increase by 125, all accommodated within existing Rural 2-5 acre zoning. An " Practices Act" similar to the Conservation Reserve Program is established. The act requires 1' undisturbed areas adjacent to streams, with a further 1' in cover crop or secondary forest products. Hybrid poplar occurs in soils of low elevation formerly pastureland and grass seed. Approximately 3/4 of the hybrid poplar will be grown for veneer (15 year rotation) and 1/4 for pulp (7 year rotation). 2' hedgerows/windbreaks are introduced along all paved roads, and line the edges of all grass seed fields. Hedgerows also occur through grass seed fields to provide connectivity to wetlands. Wetlands appearing in the ational Wetlands Inventory are incorporated into hedgerow areas wherever possible. Public forestlands: managed transition to pre-settlement forest species composition, age structure, patch distribution and disturbance processes. Private forestlands: The 11 patches of Dougfir >12 years old are preserved by either outright purchase or land swaps for other Federal lands. Other lands are managed on an 8 year uneven aged management regime with emphasis on ridges and flatter areas. Landuse / Landcover of the changes significantly with the conversion of some grass seed and upland oak to native prairie and oak savanna.
