3 Forest and Biomass Industry in Thunder Bay Confederation College with it s Biomass Learning and Research Centre (BLRC) which contains the following biomass boilers: 2 X 500 KW boilers for heating, the main shuniah building 150 KW wood chip research boiler 30 KW firewood boiler 20 KW wood pellet boiler Lakehead University Bio Refining Research Institute whose vision is to create a world-class centre of excellence that is among the national and international leaders in forest innovation and biomass research Thunder Bay CEDC is a willing partner to work with as we head towards more central heating in Northwestern Ontario. 3

4 Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) The NOHFC offers five programs: the Strategic Economic Infrastructure Program, the Northern Community Capacity Building Program, the Northern Innovation Program, the Northern Business Opportunity Program the Northern Ontario Internship Program. New products, processes, jobs and businesses using forest biomass. Small lean organization with a senior experienced Board of Directors. CRIBE funds up to 50% of project. Expanding and diversifying from traditional forest products into new products with higher commercial value. 4. Developing new novel materials using forest biomass. 5. Enabling the manufacturing shift towards green products. 7
