7 Twinning Italy-Canada activities in Research and Innovation in the Agro-Food Area Project CANADAIR A project developed by the Italian Agriculture Research Council and Canadian institutions funded by the Italian Ministry of agriculture and forestry policies for the period Areas of interest: Plant and food safety; Nutritional value of dairy products; Agroenergies representing research priorities for both Italian and Canadian research institutions WP1: Advanced approaches for resistance Improvement to mycotoxigenic fungi in relevant species, diagnosis and infection control WP2: Implementation of dairy products with added bio-functional value Twinned activities between CRA and: Agriculture and AgriFood Canada ECORC, Ottawa Ontario Agricultural College University of Guelph Guelph Food Research Centre AAFC, Guelph WP3: Agro energy plants:exploitation of the genetic biodiversity in biomass grass Arundo donax The development of CANADAIR, besides the priority targets which represent the focus of the planned research activities, has the broader objective to foster collaboration between the scientific communities of both countries, establishing a permanent ground of discussion and knowledge sharing on the strategic areas chosen for collaboration in the agro-food sector. The collaboration is taking major benefits also from exchange of scientists and visits, common discussion tables and working groups. Annual meetings between the Italian and the Canadian scientific communities are currently corroborating the development of the project, together with participation to international conferences and workshops.

9 Italy-Canada Relations: other areas Scientific Research ERA-CANplus: it is an international initiative to increase science and technology cooperation between Canada and the European Research Area (ERA). It was set up by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission and eight Canadian organizations, to increase scientific and technological cooperation. As a result, an Italian research council could establish partnerships with both EU and Canadian organizations. ACCESS2CANADA: works in close cooperation with ERA-CAN and informs the Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee (JSTCC) EU-Canada about the opportunities and obstacles for EU researchers and presents recommendations to improve the S&T cooperation.

10 Italy-Canada Relations: other areas Food Quality: Agreement signed on September 22, 2009 between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and CNR Agri-Food department. COST Project: proposed and led by CNR and funded by the European Union, it is and example of cooperation, gathering together 23 EU countries and AAFC.
