A Southwest Treasure Seasonal creek beds lined in black walnut, oak, and ponderosa pine, set against outcroppings of boulders make up portions of Sawmill Creek Ranch, while rolling grassy fingers, canyons and ravines, and ridges covered in pinon juniper enrich other segments of this spectacular property. Approximately 1,514 deeded acres, with additional forest service leased ground, located centrally between Silver City, New Mexico, and Safford, Arizona, this hunting, cattle, and recreational ranch is a southwestern treasure.
A Myriad Of Hunting Opportunities Sawmill Creek Ranch is diverse in big game, small game, and bird hunting. Mule deer and coues deer frequent the ranch, and elk have moved into the property in growing numbers over the last several years. Sawmill Creek Ranch is located in Unit 23 which contains the Burro Mountains, a desired area for coues and mule deer hunting. Mule deer hunts on Sawmill Creek Ranch take place during the first two weeks of November with muzzleloader deer hunts in October, and archery deer hunts in September and January. A high demand coues/whitetail deer hunt takes place in early December The recent movement of elk onto the ranch from the Gila National Forest of western New Mexico, and the Apache National Forest of eastern Arizona, has given rise to a high demand elk hunt within Unit 23 along with additional muzzleloader and archery elk hunts.
Wild turkey can be seen throughout the ranch along with quail, dove, javelina, black bear, mountain lion, and an array of small game species. Oak trees, oak brush, and other shrubs provide the nutritious browse needed to draw in deer while yucca, Apache plume, century plants, and pear cactus produce berries drawing additional wildlife to the biologically diverse Sawmill Creek Ranch.
Cattle Operations and Water Systems The rolling hillsides carpeted in grama grasses of the Mule Creek area, and Sawmill Creek Ranch, are known to support an average of 13 to 15 head per section, and the ranches Dripping Springs Forest Service Allotment has a carrying capacity of 24 head, 6 months of the year, for a total ranch carrying capacity of approximately 40 to 45 head.
Two wells located in Sawmill Canyon supply water to the western portion of the ranch, and Sawmill Creek runs seasonally through the canyon.
A Multitude of Recreational Opportunities at a Gentle Climate Sawmill Creek Ranch butts up against the Gila National Forest the full length of its western and southern boundaries providing access to thousands of acres for hiking, camping, hunting, exploring, and more. Widespread recreational activities and places of interest such as the old ghost town of Mogollon, the Gila cliff dwellings and hot springs, the Catwalk, and the quaint little town of Glenwood with the Gila River rambling by, are all within a short distance of Sawmill Creek Ranch. Sawmill Creek Ranch sits at an elevation of 5200 feet, with panoramic mountain views in all directions. Average temperatures are 78 in the summer and 49 in the winter. Average annual precipitation is 20 inches.
A Remarkable Location The quaint little town of Mule Creek, two miles north of Sawmill Creek Ranch, sits exquisitely amidst rolling grassy hills with the mountains of the Gila National Forest as a backdrop. Views of the Mogollon Mountains, the Gila Wilderness, and the Apache National Forest of Arizona present themselves throughout the ranch. Sawmill Creek Ranch is 55 miles, or one hour, from the historic community of Silver City where you ll find a mix of the old west and eclectic, and 60 miles, or one hour, from the farming community of Safford, Arizona. AIRPORTS The Silver City Airport offers two flights a day to Albuquerque International Airport. The approximate drive time from Sawmill Creek Ranch to Tucson is 3 hours, El Paso 3.5 hours, Phoenix 4 hours, and Albuquerque 4.5 hours.
Sawmill Creek Ranch $5,000,000 Diverse in hunting opportunities, running approximately 40 to 45 cows, bordering the Apache National Forest, in an area renowned for places of interest, and within one hour of Silver City and/or Safford, AZ, Sawmill Creek Ranch is truly a southwestern treasure.
