1 Crop Summary Soil moisture was very high at the time of planting. Just before planting, the soil was lightly disturbed in an effort to dry out the soil enough to plant. The plots were planted in late April and quickly emerged to a good stand. Abundant rainfall was observed in the weeks after planting, resulting in very saturated soil conditions. These saturated conditions seemed to stunt the plants and prevent LONGWOOD, STEELE FARMS them from obtaining much overall plant height and canopy the middles. A combination of rainfall and timely irrigations allowed for adequate soil moisture throughout the remainder of the season. Harvest was completed in a timely manner; however, some shattering was observed in some of the earlier-maturing varieties.
