10 Thailand Statistical System A decentralized statistical system Thailand NSO is responsible for collecting and publishing fundamental statistics for national development coordinate with line ministries to formulate 21 sector Statistics Development Plans Each province has provincial statistical bureau in charge of collecting data for periodical surveys of NSO and coordinate with statistical agencies within provinces 3

12 Natural Resource and Environment Statistics Development Plan Was formulated by Natural Resource and Environment Statistics Committee which chaired by Permanent Secretary of Natural Resources and Environment Ministry(NREM) and secretariat by office of permanent secretary of NREM and NSO. Consist of Policies related to natural resources and environment in line with National Economic and Social Development Plan Relevant indicators and statistics for those policy and status of data availability. statistical capacity development for related agencies. 5

17 Challenges 1. There are many laws relate to natural resources and the environment management with different legal definitions. Some data have different definitions and statistical standards. 2. Most data were used only in their own department, not be opened to public. 3. Most natural resources and environmental statistics were produced by specialized approaches.nso not involve in producing those statistics. 4. Some statistics need to be compiled from area agencies but lack of staff and budget for collecting data. It causes not meet user need in term of timeliness and not produced periodically.
