5 Armenia Public Monitoring of Forests Knowledge is Power Independent Public Monitoring empowered citizens in Armenia to protect forests: Trained volunteers to identify and document illegal forest operations in professional manner Used satellite technology to track illegal forest activities Positive feedback from the public: media dedicated more attention to this topic in 2015 and 2016 than ever before Caught the attention of Prime Minister! 9 Moldova National wood monitoring system Objective: improving wood traceability through developing and testing a wood evidence system (software application) from standing timber to end user supporting law enforcement agencies to ensure reduction of illegal activities following EU Timber Regulation 995/2010 principals toward reducing illegal logging

10 Russia Diversified NTFR use in Bezhanitsy municipality (Pskov region, Russia) providing all-year-round jobs for 15 households: Initiated in 2010 in cooperation with Polistovsky NR as an ecotouristic project. Souvenir production, wool dying with forest-originating pigments, ecotrails, hobby tours, winter and summer masterclassess, lodging and catering for tourists and trainees. Key outcomes: 40 jobs (15 of them permanent) Community income increased by 10% Emerging civic initiatives: museum, work with orphans, public control over local forests. Increase of permanent population in Zevlo village (first time since 1920s.

11 Ukraine Proposals developed by FLEG were incorporated in the Coalition agreement of Parliamentary factions European Ukraine (2014 г., section Х.5 «Reforming forestry sector») As a result of the attention of the Parliament and society to the forestry sector, a Working group for preparation of the forestry sector reform was established by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers (October 2016). Experts of the FLEG Program are members of the group On the initiative of FLEG program, at the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on agricultural policy, proposals on developing legislative acts were considered and supported: o on timber market and trade o development of the State Forest Program o on the system of funding of forestry

18 FLEG II and other international forestry fora 2013: Supporting ENPI East countries participate in International Negotiating Committee (INC) for a Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe The FLEG II Program was presented at: 2013: a roundtable organized under the Second European Forest Week (EFW) in Rovaniemi, Finland 2014 and back in 2012: at side events under FAO COFO meetings 2014: at a 24 th Montréal Process Working Group Meeting in Krasnoyarsk 2014: at Seventy-second session of the Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry in Kazan, Russia 2015: at the 15th session of the CIS Forestry Council in Yerevan, Armenia on October 13-14, : at a side-event of the 8th Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference in Batumi, Georgia.
