Lynn Sprague Regional Forester This Land and Resource Management Plan was developed for the Klamath National Forest for the next ten to fifteen years, after which it must be revised. If the need arises, it will be revised or amended earlier.

This Forest Plan was developed utilizing the guidelines provided by the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974 (RPA), as amended by the National Forest Management Act of 1976, and the National Environmental Policy Act of Its purpose is to coordinate and disclose programmatic management direction for the Klamath National Forest. This direction will provide for multiple use and the sustained yield of goods and services from the National Forest System in a manner that maximizes long-term net public benefits in an environmentally sound manner. If any particular provision of this proposed action, or the application of the action to any person or circumstances is found to be invalid, the remainder of the proposed action and the application of that provision to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected. The Forest Plan is composed of 5 chapters and a group of appendices: Chapter I Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Glossary Appendices Introduction - introduces and describes: the planning process, the purpose and need for the Plan, the relationship of the Forest Plan to other documents, the amendment process and the Forest Plan structure. Response to Issues - states the issues and concerns established at the outset of the planning process and explains how they were resolved. Summary of the Analysis of the Management Situation - summarizes the analysis of the management situation (AMS) and the affected environment displayed in Chapter 3 of the EIS. It describes the resource supply conditions, potential and uses; and the resource demand projections. Additional information on the existing resource conditions can be found within Chapter 3 of the EIS. The full text of the AMS is available as part of the planning records. Forest Management Direction - introduces the concept of management direction. It defines the Forest management goals; the projected outputs; the standards and guidelines for management of the Forest; a brief description of the management areas and their associated standards and guidelines. Monitoring and Evaluation Requirements - incorporates direction for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Forest Plan. Abbreviations, Acronyms and Definitions - lists abbreviations and acronyms used in this document. A glossary of terms provides definitions of technical and legal terms.
