SEAGAL and Growing NAVIS Projects Overview Gabriella Povero Istituto Superiore Mario Boella

The beginning The activities in South East Asia of Istituto Superiore Mario Boella and Politecnico di Torino in the field of Satellite Navigation started thanks to the call FP7-GALILEO : International Activities. The call was part of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission and managed by the European GNSS Agency GSA.

Why South East Asia? South East Asia is one of the most dynamic area of the world, with a growing economy and constant need of new infrastructures. Politecnico di Torino and Istituto Superiore Mario Boella have a long term relationship with some countries in the Region. In particular with Vietnam and Thailand. South East Asia is very interesting for the Satellite Navigation field since it is in a strategic position to receive many signals from many systems. The Region will experience the Multi-GNSS environment before any other on the planet.

Why South East Asia?

Growing NAVIS G-NAVIS will contribute to the growth of the NAVIS Collaboration Centre supporting in particular those actions that: Enhance its technical and research capabilities so that it can be recognized as a valid research and innovation centre Extend its links in South East Asia with a particular focus on the ASEAN Member States Strengthen its cooperation with Europe, European institutions and possibly European companies

Growing NAVIS G-NAVIS activities are organised in three parallel lines: Research - to enhance the technical and research capability of the Centre. Education and Training - to enforce the availability in the Region of researchers and technicians with a good education in GNSS topics. Dissemination and Networking - to extend the cooperation of the consortium to key actors in the SEA region and to strengthen its cooperation with EU.

Growing NAVIS Three research topics : 1. Study of ionosphere characteristics to be applied to Precise Positioning algorithms 2. Analysis of algorithms for software Multi-GNSS receivers 3. Study of Intelligent Transportation Systems related applications

Growing NAVIS G-NAVIS will provide: 3 International Workshops: in Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam. The Workshops will provide dissemination and technical activities. 1 Summer School dedicated to ASEAN researchers and policy makers interested in GNSS technology. The School will take place in Vietnam in 2013.
