3 Green Infrastructure Subcommittee Committee Members: Mark Bays(OK) Chair, Lowe Sharpe (SC), Todd Matthews (MS), Barbara White (VA), Nancy Stairs (NC), Sarah Gracey (KY), Patti Erwin (AR), Paul Johnson (TX) Responsible for SGSF Implementation Plan Goal 2, Priority 1 : Be proactive in forest health management and the management of forest health issues, including invasive and exotic species 3

4 Green Infrastructure Promoting Green Infrastructure (GI) throughout the southeastern states is a key factor in being proactive in urban forest health issues. 4

5 Green Infrastructure Looking for projects that demonstrate how Green Infrastructure can be successful in reducing costs and lowering storm flow into waters of the state. Regulatory drivers Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer Systems (MS4) State Watershed Implementation Plans (WIP) programs Clean Water Partnerships (CWP s) Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). 5

6 Urban Forestry Institute Last full UFI Session held in Nashville, Tennessee 2013 Green Infrastructure Workshops held in Columbus, Georgia, and Columbia, South Carolina for 2014 Funded for 2015 LaSR Competitive Grant to be hosted in Florida

9 Readiness Mock Disaster Exercises in 2014 were held in Savannah, Georgia and Fayetteville, Arkansas Urban Forest Strike Team (UFST) training was held in Savannah, Georgia 9

10 Readiness Mock Disaster Exercises for 2015 are planned for North Carolina and Mississippi. Urban Forest Strike Team (UFST) training may be held in July 10

11 Readiness Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) Research into equipment for Urban Forest Strike Teams 11

12 Response UFST methods were used in Georgia and South Carolina to quantify ice storm damages from the February storms. Damage was evaluated using UFST methods in Alabama and Oklahoma. 12

13 Recovery Members participated in ADF Community Recover Working Group meeting in October Alabama Tree Recovery Campaign was concluded with 85,000 trees planted 13

15 Urban Forestry Inventory Analysis Completed in Austin, Texas Analysis of Data Completed and waiting report 15

16 ANSI A300 Standards Southern foresters are participating on the tree care industry s ANSI-A300 Standards committee to develop a national standard for urban wood utilization (part 11) 16

17 Increasing Utilization of Urban Wood Waste Work continues on utilizing more urban wood waste. The U&CF is now connected to the Services Utilization and Marketing (SUM) Committee to coordinate efforts in preparing for EAB and other increases to the wood flow from urban lands. 17
