2 THE DIRECT SEEDING ON A NO-TILL SOIL Direct drilling on undisturbed soil is a technique of conservation agriculture based on the absence of any type of soil working. Compared to the traditional seeding, it creates less disturbance to the soil, maintaining structure and balance. It increases the organic content, reducing erosion and maintaining moisture content for rapid germination, just some of the advantages of DIRECT DRILLING. The yields are comparable to the traditional soil working, but with significant reduction in the cost of crop establishment, weed infestation and the maintaining of existing soil structure. ADVANTAGES OF THE DIRECT DRILL Reduction of soil compaction; Reduction of energy consumption (fuel) and indirect (wearing of machines) and, together with these, the emission of CO2. Increase of organic material on the soils with a better fertility and composition; Reduction of soil erosion (water and wind power), thanks to the crop residues and the covering crops; Restocking of land-based microflora and fauna; Reduction of moisture loss by the reduction of evaporation from the soil, better germination and growth in dry seasons.
