1 SNAPSHOTS OF WORKS BY RC- MUMBAI The Regional Centre, National Afforestation and Eco-development Board, Mumbai has conducted a number of programmes including workshops, training programmes, research studies, awareness generation campaigns and success story documentation in the behalf of ministry of states Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa States and Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The prologue and snapshots of the work carried by RC, mumbai is presented as follows. WORKSHOP ON IMPLEMENTATION OF JFM/FDA PROGRAMME FOR THE 11 TH FIVE YEAR PLAN To work out the Strength & Weakness of the National Afforestation Programme during 11 th plan period or in other word Experiences of the NAP in the 11 th Five Year Plan The major recommendation stressed on that SFDA should be authorized to release total funds (PPO/PYO to 5th year), just like CAMPA Left - Shri. 2 There should be integration of Tribal SHGs of the forest areas with the Urban SHGs. The Tribal SHGs will collect the forest produce and hand over it to the Forest Department or FDA. This will form the raw material for the Urban SHGs for its further processing and marketing. This will ensure the gainful employment to the women members of both the SHGs. PARTICIPATION AND INTERACTION SESSIONS OF THE WORKSHOP IN PROMOTING LOCAL MFI IN DHULE/NANDURBAR FDA, AND ESTABLISHING LINKAGES FOR TIER I CAPITAL Interactive session of the workshop Interactions between district level MAVIM, KVIC, other line departments and FDA is very essential for effective implementation of Income generating activities through SHGs in the forest areas. PRESENTATION AND INTERACTION SESSIONS OF THE PROGRAMME WORKSHOP ON CARBON CREDIT SEQUESTRATION/POTENTIAL WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO FORESTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SECTOR The main objective of this interactive workshop is to develop suitable protection and management strategies to mitigate the growing pressure on forests due to industrialization and population increase and to strengthen forest ecosystem in to an efficient carbon sink. 3 Complex CDM registration procedure should be simplified. Further efforts required to develop Voluntary Carbon Markets in India specifically in forestry projects. Problem areas under CDM- Livestock sector- India have the largest no. of cattle population, all emitting methane, which is 21 times more potent than CO2. It requires immediate solution. Evolve a community-oriented REDD+ methodology for the international voluntary carbon market. 6 ARRANGEMENTS IN MARKETING OF SMFES PRODUCTS FOR NASHIK FDAS The centre has successfully arranged Peth and Harsul Taluka FDA/JFM Committee Members SMFEs products along with non forestry products with a NGO developed by Ms Ashwini Boreste. It is recommended that the technical and scientific training programmes should initiate to explore the enterprises and skill development and capacity building of the locals is needed SHG s involvement in the programme and also showing their products-oil making and bamboo products EVALUATION OF IPVM PROPOSAL S NAEB has been assigned and entrusted RC Mumbai, with the responsibility of evaluation of application for IPVM Awards. Some of the organizations/individuals which have been nominated for the IPVM awards were evaluated by the center.
