ECO FRIENDLY WOOD FOR DECKING AND CLADDING

WHAT IS ORGANOWOOD? Organowood is eco friendly wood modified with silicon which provides the wood with long durability and makes it ages to a beautifully natural silver grey colour. The patented technology gives the wood an flame- & rot resistance and creates a water repellent surface. OrganoWood manages tough environments and becomes beautiful silver grey when exposed to weather and wind. The wood is available as decking and construction material, as well as cladding material with a wide range of profiles. House owner, architects, builders and municipalities,to mention a few, everyone is attracted to OrganoWood s eco friendly profile, the silver grey colour and that it requires minimal maintenance. 3 DISCOVER ORGANOWOOD S UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY The process has been developed with inspiration has been taken from the natural fossilisation process where minerals mineralised organic materials. OrganoWood is a patented Swedish innovation which is being developed and produced in Sweden. OrganoWood s technology is based on scientific breakthroughs in methods of modifying biofibers. With the help of technology silicon is bonded to wood fibres under high pressure. The patented modification makes the silicon creates a physical barrier that prevents the fungi from eating the timber. Our OrganoWood Plus treated wood is water repellent, thus gives higher form stability, limiting the risks of splitting as well as surface growth and making the wood easier to clean. Water-repellent molecules repel water droplets from the fiber surface. Silicon is coupled to the wood fibres to create a physical barrier against rot and efficient flame protection. Silicon bonded to the wood fibre. OrganoWood -modified wood is protected against rot, fire and water.

WOOD FACTS Pine is a soft wood that has many benefits, not least being easy to work with and lightweight. OrganoWood treated wood is also kilned dried to around 18% relative moisture content, which makes it even lighter than tradi- tionally treated wood for use outdoors. OrganoWood is optimised for the modification of pine and spruce. Pine is traditionally used for terraces and structural elements, and spruce for cladding. These woods contain knots with a structure that can vary from case to case. Since both pine and spruce move according to the air humidity and temperature, splits can occur after installation, often after dry periods. Wood turns grey via two natural processes. The sun s UV rays have a bleaching effect whilst various microorganisms make the wood darker. These two processes achieve a greying balan- ce after about a year, by which time the wood is a pale, silver-grey colour. Particularly during the first autumn however, small surface mould spots may appear and the wood may also look dark, but this should only last a short time. A phenomenon that may occur on aging wood surfaces is the loss of excess surface wood fibers. This phenomenon arises when the sun UV-radiation is wearing down lignin that keeps the wood fibers bonded to each other and may occur faster on timber exposed to very strong sunshine. Fiber loss is a completely natural process in the timbers cycle and does not affect the properties of the timber. This is a phenomenon that decreases over time. The excess fiber loss is easy to remedy simply brush away the fibres when the decking is dry and treat it with OrganoWood 02. Repellent. 6 ECO FRIENDLY WOOD OrganoWood -modified timber has been developed to cope with vulnerable environments without using toxic impregnation substances. All substances in OrganoWood s products are non-toxic and can be returned to the natural cycle. Therefore, the timber does not need to be recycled as environmentally hazardous waste and can be recycled as untreated wood in accordance with local regulations. All substances that the timber contents are classified as harmless to health and to the environment according to CLP-regulation (EG nr 1272/2008). OrganoWood s wood protection products were the first wood protection products in Sweden to be awarded the Swedish Nature Conservation Association s ecolabel Bra Miljöval. OrganoWood -modified timber has the highest ecoclassification from Sunda Hus and Byggvarubedömningen The products are registered in the BASTA-registry. The technology that has been used in the production of OrganoWood was appointed as Swedens Best Environmental Innovation In 2014 OrganoWood was also named Hottest New Material of the Year at Nordbygg, Scandinavia s biggest construction show. The company was appointed a Climate Solver of WWF 2010 and as a Sustainia 100 company 2015.

QUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY Sustainability In 2013 an independent study with a variety of wood and different wood treatments was initiated by SP Technical Research Institute and Malmö s City Environment Department. The purpose was to compare performance by studying attacks of microorganisms, fractures and deformations in the materials. The test shows that OrganoWood has developed equivalently with pressuretreated wood during the trial period. For natural durability according to SS-EN 350, OrganoWood obtains class 1, which is the highest durability. Rot and flame protection OrganoWood -modified timber has a well-documented rot resistance according to the Root protection test SS-EN 113. The timber comes with a 10-year rot resistance guarantee (see guarantee certificate). Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) The so-called Cool Roof technology strives for a high SRI value, to keep the heat transfer to buildings lower and therefore save costs related to cooling needs. In addition, the risk of creating urban heat island is reduced. Light reflectivity and storage capacity are weighed together to a scale of OrganoWood gets a SRI of 82.4, in the SP test ASTM E which is a very good value. Certificate All of OrganoWood -modified timber is FSC or PEFC certified.

ORGANOWOOD -MODIFIED TIMBER ORGANOWOOD The pine raw material for OrganoWood modified timber comes from the best pine districts in southern Sweden. The raw material from southern Sweden is characterized by growing relatively quickly, the timber therefore exhibits a greater variety of knots appearance and a slightly smaller proportion of heartwood compared to raw materials from the north. DECKING 22 x x 120 ORGANOWOOD SELECT The pine raw material for OrganoWood Select modified timber comes from the best pine districts in central/northern parts of Sweden. The raw materials from these districts are characterized by a relatively high proportion of heartwood, and that the knots are smaller and rounded in shape. DECKING 28 x x x 145 ORGANOWOOD SELECT PLUS The pine raw material for OrganoWood Select Plus modified timber comes from the best pine districts in central parts of Sweden and is an OrganoWood sort of raw material that provides an experience of a smoother and calmer appearance compared to OrganoWood Select. The wood has also been deeply treated with OrganoWood 02. Repellent: Dirt & water repellent. The treatment gives the timber water repellent properties thus limiting the risks of splitting as well as surface growth and mould attack. It also makes it more difficult for dirt particles to adhere, making it easier for the wood to stay clean. 9 BEFORE INSTALLATION OF ORGANOWOOD MODIFIED TIMBER All OrganoWood -modified timber has been developed to meet the conditions for outdoor applications above ground contact.» Keep the timber covered and well ventilated before installation.» OrganoWood -modified decking is delivered dry (moisture content about 18%), So use an air gap between the boards of at least 5 mm by 120 mm width and 7 mm at 145 mm width. Variation in the wood moisture content (seasonal variation) can influence the actual dimensions of the wood, therefore controll the width of the wood before assembly to adjust the width of the air gap.» Use stainless steel screws in quality A2 or A4, or coated screws in quality C4.» If cutting, penetration or other small timber processing is inevitable, should the machined surfaces treated with OrganoWood 01 for the rot-protection to remain optimal. We recommend that the exposed end is treated with OrganoWood 02. For the best protection.» The floor under the decking should be for a 22 mm thick decking have a maximum duration of CC-distance of 40 cm. At 28 mm and 34 mm thick decking should CCdistance is 60 cm.» We recommend that the decking has a distance of at least 30 cm to the soil to reduce moisture problems in wood.» Regarding the construction, we recommend making sure that the floor can be ventilated from underneath to minimize problems with cupping.» At fouling or unwanted superficial fouling, wash the decking with OrganoWood 03. After washing we recommend that the decking is treated with OrganoWood 02.» OrganoWood modified decking timber should not be painted. We recommend surface treatment with OrganoWood 02. every two or three years, or when needed. Before After 1 year

A beautiful panel that will be beautifully silver gray over time.

BEFORE INSTALLATION OF ORGANOWOOD PANEL» Keep the timber covered and well ventilated before installation.» If you experience strips on your timber, this is due to the fact that OrganoWood s wood is treated in pressure chamber for the best possible penetration of wood protection fluids.» Minimize the visibility of the strips by wiping, sanding/ grinding and/or letting weather and wind bleach them.» Use stainless steel screws in quality A2 or A4, or coated screws in quality C4.» If cutting, penetration or other small timber processing is inevitable, should the machined surfaces treated with OrganoWood 01 for the rot-protection to remain optimal. We recommend that the exposed end is treated with OrganoWood 02. For the best protection.» OrganoWood -modified panel is delivered with its natural beautiful pine color. The wood will age naturally and get a beautiful silver-gray color with time. The process varies depending on weather conditions. A panel that is placed completely protected from the sun, for example under a balcony, gets a slow graying process or no one at all.» OrganoWood modified panel should not be painted. Before After 1 year

MAINTENANCE AND TREATMENT OrganoWood -modified timber is natural beautiful pine color and the wood will get a beautiful silver-gray color with time. The timber should not be painted. We recommend surface treatment with OrganoWood 02. Wood is a living material and requires more or less maintenance due to weather, wind and wear. OrganoWood has developed three products that together create a complete wood protection system. The products are equally suitable for use on OrganoWood modified timber as in other sorts of woods, such as traditional pressure treated wood, cedar, larch etc. When using the OrganoWood products on wood outdoors, the wood gets a harder, lighter surface and a beautiful silver-gray color. OrganoWood 01. Protection: Rot- and flame protection is used as an undercoat for timber that needs improved resistance to fibre or rot. OrganoWood 01. Protection has a bleaching effect on wood and creates a harder surface that feels smoother and is less inclined to split. The product shall be used to seal cut faces on OrganoWood-modified timber as well as on other untreated or treated wood where increased rotary and flame retardancy is desired. The product carries the Good Environmental Choice label from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation. OrganoWood 02. Repellent: Dirt- and water repellent is used as a topcoat or for maintenance in OrganoWood s wood protection system. The product makes the wood waterrepellent, reduced risk of surface growth and creates a surface that is easier to clean. OrganoWood 03. Cleaner is used for cleaning the surface prior to treatment as well as maintaining the wood. The product carries the Good Environmental Choice label from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
