4 Registration & Information Desk Open The Fairmont Château Laurier, French Corridor Breakfast Future of Policing Advisory Committee Update On October 27, 2011, the OACP called upon then Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services to host a Summit on the future of policing in Ontario. In response, a Summit on the Future of Policing was held in March 2012, which brought together police leaders and other partners to discuss the current challenges facing police services in Ontario and their sustainability into the future. Following the Summit, the Ministry created a new stakeholder advisory committee, the Future of Policing Advisory Committee (FPAC), supported by a number of Working groups, to plan for effective, efficient, and sustainable police service delivery in Ontario. This session will provide an overview of the FPAC process and highlight themes, preliminary recommendations and potential changes arising from that work to date. 6 This session will provide an update on the Province s Use of Force review from a police and Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services perspective. Deputy Chief Mike Federico Toronto Police Service Refreshment Break Lisa Sabourin Standards Officer (Acting) Police Standards Section Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services De-escalation Research and Training This session will provide the research and background on a course offered at the Ottawa Police Service based on research from the Justice Institute of British Columbia. The session will also provide feedback on the training and its effectiveness. Constable Steve Hart Ottawa Police Service Lunch Decreasing Police Services Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVCs) This session will provide an overview of the initiatives being employed by Peel Regional Police, Guelph Police Service, and York Regional Police to decrease the number of officer-involved collisions. It will also include a video re-enactment of a fatal collision that is being used as a training tool for front-line members and identify technological solutions that will assist in achieving the goal of decreasing departmental MVCs.
