1 The 2015 Australian Local Government Leadership Summit Exploring Local Government Leadership Excellence Melbourne Thursday 29th & Friday 30th October MAIA, Docklands, Melbourne Informed by local government leaders in collaboration with The Australian Excellence in Local Government Leadership Initiative (AELGLI). The Australian Local Government Leadership Summit is the largest gathering of senior Local Government leaders and managers. The 2015 Summit will explore the key competencies and behaviours required for leadership excellence in the coming years. Drawing Local Government leaders from all parts of Australia and abroad, the Summit is shaped by the generous involvement of Local Government leaders and senior managers. Whilst the Summit is primarily structured for leadership performance enhancement, it is also an important opportunity for Local Government leaders to connect and establish purposeful friendships and alliances.

2 SUMMIT OVERVIEW The 2015 Australian Local Government Leadership Summit will explore the concept of leadership excellence in an individual and organisational context. The Summit will examine the behaviours that underpin leadership excellence and the implications of those behaviours on departmental and organisational success in the local government setting. Emphasis will be placed upon evidence based leadership strategy, and discussion will be built around real local government leadership situations with a strong focus on proactive collaboration with peers and other councils. Keynote presentations from speakers will provide insights into proven and innovative approaches of leaders that are thriving in the local government arena. Additionally, local government leaders will discuss their own leadership development strategies that have enabled marked elevations in the performance and engagement of entire management teams. World class leadership educators from the Australian School of Applied Management (ASAM) have been engaged to run dynamic sessions designed to unlock and hone adaptive leadership through self-direction, awareness and agile decision making. In a clear mandate from the Summit Organising Committee, priority will be placed on strengthening inter-council networks. 3 WHO SHOULD ATTEND? The Summit is designed specifically for local government leaders including CEOs, directors, senior managers, mayors and leading elected members. High potential leaders with genuine aspirations for progression into senior leadership roles are also encouraged to attend. Building on last year s record breaking attendance levels, it is anticipated that most Australian councils will be represented in Accordingly, the Summit Organising Committee has reinstated the All-Council Access Subsidy, designed to support each council with the attendance of up to three delegates. Details included below. ALL-COUNCIL ACCESS SUBSIDY Guided by input from Local Government leaders Australia wide and in line with the intention of attracting the largest gathering of Australian local government leaders, it was determined that all Australian councils should have equitable access to the Summit. Accordingly, the Summit Organising Committee has authorised the reinstatement of the All-Council Access Subsidy. The subsidy supports the attendance of up to three delegates from each council. 4 SUMMIT NETWORKING DRINKS On the evening of day 1 all Summit delegates are invited to join the Local Government Leaders Social Networking Drinks. Delegates are also encouraged to bring business cards to exchange at every opportunity. LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERS BREAKFAST On the morning of day 2 all Summit delegates receive exclusive complimentary access to the 2015 Local Government Leaders Breakfast. The breakfast creates a powerful opportunity for local government leaders to connect and interact in a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, the 2015 breakfast will feature a leadership keynote from Evonne Cawley AO MBE, Australia s most loved woman s tennis player and one of the country s most admired Aboriginal sports people. Cancellations received up to 6 weeks prior to the event will incur a 50% withdrawal fee. For cancellations received within 6 weeks of the event no refund will be issued. If an event is rescheduled or not held for any reason, WTAA s liability is limited to the event fee only.
