2 About Leadership Jenks The goal of Leadership Jenks is to identify and motivate emerging leaders in our community. The program is a joint community leadership-building program organized and co-sponsored by the Jenks Chamber of Commerce, the Jenks Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation and the City of Jenks. All expenses associated with the program are sponsored by the Chamber, Foundation, City and community businesses. Participant Requirements There is no cost for participants to be a part of Leadership Jenks. Community organizations and businesses sponsor the program. In order to participate, interested persons must fill out an application form and the agreement form. Participants are required to: -be a resident of the Jenks community or employed by an area business for one year -miss no more than two sessions of Leadership Jenks Participant Selection Process Applications will be reviewed by the Leadership Jenks Steering Committee and, once selection is complete, applicants will be notified. It is the goal of the Committee to select a group of individuals representing different areas of the community and business community. After acceptance, all correspondence and reminders will be sent via from the Jenks Chamber of Commerce.

3 Leadership Jenks XXVIII Course Information All sessions meet the second Tuesday of each month, starting in October and ending in May. The first session is located in Jenks City Hall's Community Room, 211 N. Elm. Future sessions may occur at alternate locations. Notice will be given for location changes. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end no later than 8:30 p.m. NOTE: The second session will be the third Tuesday in November (Nov. 18) rather than the second (Nov. 11) as it falls on Veterans Day. There are nine elements including a Saturday morning bus tour and a graduation banquet. Session Jenks: Then and Now In addition to providing an overview of the Leadership Jenks program, this session will cover the history of Jenks, an update on developments around the community, what the future holds as well as a look at how the city government is structured. By the People This session will focus on intergovernmental relations between cities, the county, state and federal governments. It will also cover the ways in which regulations passed at the state and federal levels affect Jenks, our businesses and our citizens. Educating the Next Generation The Jenks community has a great tradition of educational excellence. This session will cover the educational offerings in the area, how they're set up and how they're funded. To Serve and Protect This session will focus on the Jenks Police and Jenks Fire Departments. Subject matter will include how both organizations are structured, how they operate and ways the public can interact with them. Go Forth and Build a City This session will cover a variety of topics related to building a city. Zoning, city planning and neighborhood development are among the subjects to be covered in this session. Business and the Experience Economy This session will cover business development, business recruitment and attraction as well as ways in which Jenks continues to develop an experience economy along the Arkansas river. Roads, Sewer and the Budget The final classroom session of Leadership Jenks focuses the Jenks Public Works Department, which is responsible for our streets, sanitary sewer, water and more, and on city finances, namely how the budget is prepared, where the money to run our city comes from and where it is spent. On the Ground and On the Road in Jenks, America The Saturday bus tour of Jenks combines all of the knowledge you've learned in the classroom and takes it to the streets. You'll see how zoning, building codes and more affect neighborhoods and business districts. You'll see elements of the community you've most likely never seen. Additionally, participants are able to tour one of the largest employers in Jenks. Pomp and Circumstance You've made it! Celebrate all the knowledge you've garnered from Leadership Jenks and attend the graduation ceremony held at the Oklahoma Aquarium. 5 Leadership Jenks XXVII Participant Agreement Candidates for Leadership Jenks must be able to dedicate the time and effort to the program and be committed to becoming leaders in the community. Candidates must successfully complete the Leadership Jenks program, missing no more than two sessions. Application to the program does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
