6 Molding the Future of Fayetteville North Carolina s fourth largest metropolitan area relies on 22 citizen advisory boards and commissions to aid its Mayor and City Council in governing effectively.

7 If you have the desire and time to serve on one of these boards or commissions, simply complete an application and mail or fax it to us.

8 The Fayetteville City Council reviews the applications, nominates citizens for vacancies and votes to fill the seats at City Council meetings.

10 Adjustment The Board of Adjustment has 7 members who serve a three-year term. To allow a procedure to appeal or request a variance in regards to the enforcement of any zoning ordinance.

11 Airport The Airport Commission has 7 members who serve a two-year term. The Commission shall administer the operation and maintenance of the Fayetteville Regional Airport.

12 Appearance The Appearance Commission has 15 members who serve a two-year term. To enhance and improve the visual quality and the aesthetic characteristics of Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville.

13 Dwellings & Buildings The Board of Appeals on Dwellings & Buildings has 5 members who serve a three-year term. The Board is authorized to perform such powers as may be necessary or convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and provisions of the Dwellings and Buildings Minimum Standards Code.

14 Fair Housing The Fair Housing Board has 5 members who serve a two-year term. Hears complaints of fair housing violations of Chapter 11 of the Fayetteville City Code.

15 Firemen s Relief The North Carolina Firemen s Relief Fund Board of Trustees has 5 members who serve a two-year term. The Board of Trustees disburse funds as specified by the act and shall keep a correct amount of all monies received and disbursed by them and shall at the annual meeting of the North Carolina State Firemen's Association render an itemized statement.

16 Historic Resources The Historic Resources Commission has 11 members who serve a two-year term. To safeguard the heritage of the City of Fayetteville by preserving, in accordance with law, any property therein that embodies important elements of its cultural, social, economic, political, or architectural history; and to promote the use and conservation of such property for the education, pleasure, and enrichment of the residents of the City, County, and State as a whole.

17 Housing The Metropolitan Housing Authority has 10 members who serve a five-year term. To establish administrative policies affecting the organization and conduct of the Authority and substantiate policies to be used as guidelines in carrying out the local housing program.

18 Human Relations The Human Relations Commission has 15 members who serve a two-year term. To study problems of discrimination in any or all fields of human relationships and encourage fair treatment and mutual understanding among all racial, ethnic, sex and age groups; and anticipating and discovering those practices and customs most likely to create animosity and unrest among racial and ethnic groups, and, by consultation, seeking a solution as these problems arise or are anticipated.

19 Linear Park The Fayetteville Linear Park Committee has 5 members whose term vary. The Corporation shall be operated for the purpose of assisting the City of Fayetteville in carrying out its municipal and governmental functions through the financing, acquisition, improvement or leasing of real or personal property for the use of the citizens of the City of Fayetteville.

20 Personnel The Personnel Review Board has 6 members who serve a two-year term. The purpose of the Personnel Review Board is to hear post-termination appeals of regular full-time employees under the jurisdiction of the City Manager regarding their dismissal. The Board shall have no jurisdiction to hear an appeal until an employee has exhausted all administrative remedies pursuant to Section of the Personnel Ordinance.

21 Parks & Recreation The Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission has 15 members who serve a two-year term. The Commission shall advise the City Council on policies and plans to provide adequate parks and recreational facilities for the City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County.

22 Planning The City Planning Commission has 9 members who serve a two-year term. The purpose of the City Planning Commission is to develop and carry on a long-range, continuing, and comprehensive planning program for the orderly growth and development of the entire county and the City of Fayetteville.

23 Public Arts The Public Arts Commission has 6 members who serve a two-year term. Review and comment on public art projects proposed or offered to the City of Fayetteville for placement on City-controlled property.

24 Public Works The Public Works Commission has 4 members who serve a four-year term. To provide the citizens of Fayetteville and residents of areas adjacent to Fayetteville with reliable electric, water, and sanitary sewer utilities services at reasonable costs.

25 Public Works Retirement The Public Works Retirement Commission has 5 members who serve a five-year term. To provide a retirement system for the payment of retirement benefits to the employees of the Public Works Commission.

26 Redevelopment The Redevelopment Commission has 7 members who serve a five-year term. To plan and implement the City's Community Development programs (Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership Act) with administrative and technical support provided by the Community Development Department.

27 Senior Citizens The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission has 10 members who serve a two-year term. To recommend policies and programs to aid the City and County in meeting the needs and aspirations of senior citizens.

28 Stormwater The Stormwater Advisory Board has 7 members who serve either a one or two-year term. To provide for joint operation in a joint service area of a single structural and natural storm water and drainage system service within that area of Cumberland County more particularly described herein, and to provide for the funding through the collection of a service fee as authorized by N.C.G.S. 153A-277 and 160A-314.

29 Taxicab The Taxicab Review Board has 7 members who serve a two-year term. The Board reviews problems and hears appeals for any decision of the Taxi Inspector or City Manager pertaining to Chapter 26 of the City Code.

30 Wreckers The Wrecker Review Board has 7 members who serve a two-year term. The Board reviews problems and hears appeals for any decision of the Wrecker Inspector pertaining to Chapter 24 of the City Code.

31 Zoning The City Zoning Commission has 7 members who serve a two-year term. The zoning agency shall be empowered to conduct public hearings for the purpose of making recommendations to the City Council on initial zonings, rezonings, and special use permits.
