Petitions and Delegations Gary McWilliams, representing the Port Hope Heritage Festival, addressed Council on his Committee's plans in progress for a festival to be held Thanksgiving weekend, in Port Hope, which will include antiques, high end artisans, and merchant involvement. Mr. McWilliams advised that CFMX is a major sponsor, and the Committeeis seeking other corporate sponsorship, but that the Committee requires help re traffic control, parking, and signage. Mr. McWilliams advised of grant funding for which the Committee is applying to the ntario Government. Mr. McWilliams requested the Town to accept charitable donations on behalf of the Refer to Resolution No. 193/98. Mr. McWilliams also requestedthe Town donate seed money in the amount of $25 - $3 for entertainment at the Bandshell. Referred to the General Government Deputy Mayor Austin requested that the Town Hall, PoliceServices and Fire Chief be given the request for any street closures two months prior to the event, so that appropriate review can be given. Councillor Hunt requested a copy of the Port Hope Heritage Festival Committee's perating Plan. Tim Hope addressed Council, advising that 22 cyclists with the Tour du Canada will be in Port Hope on Saturday, August 15, 1998, proposing to picnic on the front lawn of the Town Hall, or in the Bandshell in case of rain, from 1:3 to noon, and will require 2 large and 1 regular picnic table, and garbage cans. Welcoming signs will be located along the route, which is Lakeshore Road, to Highway 2, and north on Hamilton Road. Council approved of the use of the front lawn of the Town Hall, and that Mr. Hope liaise with Eugene Todd, with respect to finalizing the plans for this event. Juris Berzins addressed Council, providing design plans for entranceway signs at the three entrances to Port Hope, and answered questions pertaining thereto. Lees BE IT RESLVED THAT the Treasurer be authorized to set up a Charitable Donation Account for the Gazebo for the Waterfront Trail, and for the Port Hope Heritage Festival with applicable receipts issued. No. 194/98 BE IT RESLVED THAT Council declare the week of November 5 to 11, 1998 as "Veterans' Week" in the Town of Port Hope. No WHEREAS on Monday, August 24, 1998, some members of Council will be in attendance at the AM Conference; THEREFRE BE IT RESLVED THAT the Council meeting scheduled for August 24, 1998, be rescheduled to Monday, August 31, No. 196/98 BE IT RESLVED THAT Council authorize the issuance of a cheque in the amount of $1. as a donation to "Jesse's Journey - A Father's Tribute". No. 197/98 BE IT RESLVED THAT the signage for Lent Lane meets Town standards and is satisfactory as currently signed. No BE IT RESLVED THAT the Treasurer be authorized to pay accounts totalling $654,139.7 for the period June 26, 1998 to July 1, continued page 97.

Lees WHEREAS recently a community initiated project by the Waterfront Implementation Committee involving the construction of a gazebo for the enjoyment of all citizens and visiting tourists was maliciously destroyed by fire; AND WHEREAS this criminal act will not be tolerated; NW THEREFRE BE IT RESLVED THAT the Council of the Town of Port Hope approve an additional reward of $3 in conjunction with any Crimestoppers reward for apprehension of the individuals involved. Lees WHEREAS Monday, September 7, 1998 is Labour Day; THEREFRE BE IT RESLVEDTHAT the Committeeof the Whole meeting scheduled for September 7, 1998, be rescheduled to Tuesday, September 8, No. 22/98 WHEREAS the Town of Port Hope has 3 entranceway signs in need of refurbishment; AND WHEREAS there is a need for consistency with the Town's unique character; BE IT RESLVED THAT Entranceway signage as designed by Juris Berzins, Design Consultant,who is under contract to the HBIA in conjunction with the Town of Port Hope, be approved by Council; AND FURTHER BE IT RESLVED THAT Town Staff prepare for tender construction of the 3 entranceway signs to be located at Highway 2 at the north end of Town, Highway 2 at the east end of Town and Highway 28 at the north end of Port Hope; AND FURTHER THAT Town Council approve funding for the entranceway signage, not to exceed fifteen (15) thousand dollars, through the Town's Parking Reserve. 5 PAGE98. Q 8. By-laws: 9. New Business: Councillor S. Ashton, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, advised Council that a letter was received from the Royal Bank announcing the RBC Dominion Securities are now available on Thursdays and by appointment in Port Hope, to provide full service investment services. This is in response to concerns expressed to the Councillor Ashton expressed appreciation to the Royal Bank for their response in this regard. Councillor Ashton also advised that Port Hope is incorporated into the Industry Canada website Canadian Business Map. A copy of the correspondence to be circulated to all members of Council. Deputy Mayor Austin gave Noticeof Motion for the next Council Meeting that $5, of the Parking Reserve be donated to the Port Hope Heritage Festival. Deputy Mayor Austin requested Councillor Ashton, Council's representativeon the HBIA and Chamber of Commerce,to requestthe HBIA and Chamber to provide two months noticeto Town Hall, Police Service and Fire Department for future proposed street closures. Mayor R. Smith advised of the Kraft Dinner cruiser which was in Port Hope on August 8, 1998, and the Kraft donations to the food banks during the summer, which is considered a particularly needy time for the food banks. Mayor Smith advised that Anne McKague, a former Member of Council, will begin treatments for an illness on August 11, 1998, and expressed best wishes to Ms. McKague. 1.
