13 Background E-Governance unit in the department is formed based on the orders of the Chief Secretary and Secretary (Primary and Secondary Education) with the following objectives To strengthen the statistical system of the department and streamline the various computerisation activities Improve the quality of education by assisting teachers and students using ICT Reduce costs of information processing Provide easy access of information to the community Timely delivery of information Improve interactions with stakeholders Enhance the capabilities of department personnel to achieve the goals

14 Problems and Issues Non-availability of common database Lack of clear and comprehensive approach with respect to using IT Difficulties in the management of the existing manual filing system No System Auditing on existing hardware and technical projects Inaccuracy and inconsistency of data Lack of professional training Lack of Financial resources for IT infrastructure and projects Non availability of Inter and intra connectivity of data Dissemination of information and lack of analytical skills

15 The Team A State level Education Department e-governance committee has been formed headed by the Secretary (Primary and Secondary Education). Commissioner for Public Instruction, SPD SSA, Representative of e-gov. Dept., Representative of NIC, Representative of PPU are important members of this committee e- Governance unit in the CPI s office has also been formed JD, SSA (Nodal Officer) SADPI + 5 ADPIs + 7 Technical Personnel Orders have been issued to form district level and block level e- Governance units.

16 The Perspective Plan and Annual Work Plan As per the requirement, a perspective plan for three years and comprehensive annual work plan has been prepared. The draft plan was presented to the State level Education Department e-governance committee on 04 th August, The plan was revised based on the input/suggestions given by the committee and submitted to Secretary (Primary and Secondary Education)

19 Current Status

20 Capacity Building E-Governance unit formed at all the CPI s offices. District and Block level e-governance Units formed. Orientation programme to State EGU and members of District EGU provided. Training on LMS/FMS for all the dept. personnel of CPI s office conducted at e-gov. Secretariat training center and schedules have been prepared for implementation IT Culture training through PPU is in progress for officers.

21 E-Governance-Applications Educational Management Information System (EMIS) Developed in coordination with Azim Premji Foundation (APF) and roll out plans are prepared Data Capturing with Bio-Metric Device being attempted on a pilot basis in 5 Govt. Schools Personnel Management Information Systems (PMIS) developed by NIC is being studied for adaptation Department websites schooleducation.kar.nic.in developed inhouse and launched with school search facility The process of utilising the web based MMR developed by NIC is on

22 Infrastructure Six Computers have been provided by SSA to State e- Governance Unit One Computer, One Printer, One UPS and software is supplied to all the Blocks through SSA - a step towards e- Governance Setting up of office space for State e-governance Unit is in progress

23 Maintenance and Support Department website is being Updated periodically Maintenance of the systems already existing in the Dept. Technical support for the staff
