Speakers will be heard as the individual item(s) in which they have registered an interest come before the Council. Your remarks will be limited in duration depending on the number of people wanting to speak on a particular item. Delay or interruption of the proceedings will not be tolerated.

3 INVOCATION PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ELECTION E-1 Request that the City Council consider canvassing the returns of the City Council Election held May 5, 2018, for the Mayor at Large, and Councilmember Districts No. 2, 4 and 6, and adopting an Ordinance declaring the results. E-2 Request that a certificate of election and the Oath of Office be administered to the re-elected Mayor at Large and City Councilmembers for Districts 4 and 6, and to the newly elected City Councilmember for District 2. Page: 1 of 1 Item Reference: Texas Election Code Section (Time for Local Canvass) The City Council is required by law (Sec of the Texas Election Code) to canvass the returns and declare results of the City Council Election held on May 5, 2018, to elect a Mayor at Large, and City Councilmember for Single Member Districts No. 2, 4 and 6, and adopt an Ordinance declaring the results. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council canvass the returns of the City Council Election held May 5, 2018, to elect a Mayor at Large, and City Councilmembers for Single Member Districts No. 2, 4, and 6, and adopt an Ordinance declaring the results. 5 ORDINANCE NO. O AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TYLER, TEXAS, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF TYLER, TEXAS, ON THE 5 th DAY OF MAY, 2018, FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR AT LARGE AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS FOR DISTRICTS NO. 2, 4 AND 6, AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on the 16 th day of May, 2018, the City Council of the City of Tyler, Texas, at a meeting duly called for the purpose, canvassed the returns of the City Council Election held on the 5 th day of May, 2018, in the City of Tyler, for the election of the Mayor at Large, and City Councilmembers for Districts No. 2, 4 and 6 for the City of Tyler, Texas, and it appearing as a result of such canvass that the following named persons received the following number of votes for Mayor at Large, and for City Councilmember Districts No. 2, 4 and 6: Mayor at Large Joel Rando Martin Heines 293 Votes 2,283 Votes District No. 2, For City Councilmember Broderick McGee Beverly Beavers- Brooks 271 Votes 232 Votes District No. 4, For City Councilmember Don Warren 214 Votes District No. 6 For City Councilmember John Nix 472 Votes NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TYLER, TEXAS: PART 1: That Martin Heines be and is hereby declared the duly elected Mayor at Large, to serve for a two-year term of office. PART 2: That Broderick McGee be and is hereby declared the duly elected City Councilmember for District No. 2, to serve for a two-year term of office. PART 3: That _Don Warren be and is hereby declared the duly elected City Councilmember for District No. 4, to serve for a two-year term of office.

6 PART 4: That _John Nix be and is hereby declared the duly elected City Councilmember for District No. 6, to serve for a two-year term of office. PART 5: That the above named Mayor at Large and City Councilmembers for Districts No. 2, 4, and 6 shall be sworn into office and shall each serve for a two-year term of office. PART 6: That this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. Page: 1 of 1 Item Reference: Texas Election Code Section (Certificate of Election) Election of Mayor Pro Tem It is necessary for the new City Council to elect, from among its members, a Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor Pro Tem serves in the absence of the Mayor during a one-year term. By tradition, the City Council usually selects the City Councilmember with the most seniority to be Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor Pro Tem for the past six years are as follows: 2012/2013 Mark Whatley 2013/2014 Martin Heines 2014/2015 Darryl Bowdre 2015/2016 Ed Moore 2016/2017 John Nix 2017/2018 Don Warren 2018/2019 Appoint RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council consider electing a Mayor Pro Tem.
