2 What prompted you to run for this office? What priorities are you seeking to address with your campaign? I am running for Port Commission because I want to make a contribution to my community using the experience I ve gained over the past 30 years in aviation. It has been too long since the port has had a commissioner with significant airport and airline experience. SeaTac Airport is an economic engine for the region as well as the state, and it is critical that we capitalize on this vital economic resource. Nearly eighty percent of the port s total revenue is related to aviation. I have the aviation industry experience that the port commission needs. My entire career has been in the business of transporting passengers and cargo around the globe. For the past eight years I have served as a member of the board of directors of one of the largest passenger airlines in the world. I know what it takes to run a successful world class transportation operation. I have extensive experience in labor relations. For 21 years I have been a member of the Air Line Pilots Association International the largest pilots union in the world. I have held leadership positions at the local and national level. The Port Commission needs a fresh perspective on process and policy making. I will make sure the community has a voice in the decisions that affect our quality of life. I feel strongly that as the home to SeaTac Airport, South King County should have representation on the commission. As the first South King County resident to be on the commission for many years, I would be committed to nurturing strong partnerships with airport communities. I have a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities of transportation, government regulations, labor relations and international business economics related to trade and transportation. List the notable endorsements you have received to date. Who are you planning to ask for an endorsement? At this time my endorsements include King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove. I am working to add numerous other endorsements including the currently seated Port of Seattle Commissioners, 33 rd district and other King County legislative district committees, city council members from all of the communities surrounding the airport as well as other cities in King county, and as many relevant labor and business organizations as possible. Describe the progress of your campaign and campaign goals. For instance, how many doors have you knocked on? What earned media has your campaign received? How much money have you raised? Presently my campaign is in its first phase. I am seeking endorsements from a variety of organizations and individuals to ensure a successful campaign. I am also conducting the requisite fundraising process and making progress. Have you ever been a member of any other political party? If so, what party? Have you ever given money to a candidate from another party in a partisan race? If so, to whom and when? No. Please answer the following questions. Yes* No 1 Have you ever failed to pay any taxes or court ordered judgments? 2 Have you ever been found in violation of a Public Disclosure Commission, Federal

3 Election Commission or Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission regulation? * If you answered Yes to any of the above, please explain your answer: N/A Part II Port Issues # Question Yes No Qualify your response 1 Do you support amending the U.S. Constitution to lessen the influence of money in politics, and declare that corporations do not have the rights of natural persons? 2 Do you support the right of public workers, excluding military, to bargain and strike? 3 Do you support full implementation of SeaTac Good Jobs Proposition #1 (2013) within the Port of Seattle's jurisdiction? 4 Should the Port promote a clean drayage truck program? 5 Should the Port promote dockside rail connections to minimize truck traffic congestion, and diesel emissions? 6 Do you support replacing trees on or off site lost during development to protect our cities urban tree canopy? 7 Should the Port make Cold Iron electrical power available to shippers to minimize diesel generator exhaust air pollution? 8 Do you support the Port s Century Agenda (Our Vision: 10,000 new jobs)? 9 Do you support allowing coal or oil to be exported from Washington State s ports? 10 Do you support the Davis Bacon Act? I believe workers deserve a living wage. I believe strongly in preserving the environment and I generally don t support increased use of fossil fuels. Transportation of oil and coal through Washington State ports occurs now and will likely continue for quite some time. It follows that if these cargoes are going to be transported that there should be strict regulation and oversight of their movement and storage.

4 11 Do you support state legislation to enable the Seaport Alliance between the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma to move forward? 12 Do you support Chris Hansen s proposal to build a new basketball arena in SoDo? 13 Do you support the efforts of SeaTac Airport workers to collectively bargain for better pay and better working conditions? 14 Do you support Tim Eyman s I 747, which artificially limits property tax increases to 1% per year, regardless of population growth, inflation, and need? Not enough information. I have not seen a comprehensive transportation proposal related to the arena that would adequately accommodate port surface transportation requirements. Part III Free Response Questions Please review the 2014 King County Democratic Platform, approved by the delegates to the King County Convention and available from KCDCC s website. List which planks, if any, you disagree with, and why. I agree with the platform as described. I also believe that to achieve those platform objectives, it is critical to work in a thoughtful and collaborative way. This sometimes requires compromise along the path to achieving useful results. Do you agree with the Port Commission s recent decision to sign a lease with Shell Oil allowing the company to store its Arctic drilling equipment in Seattle with no public hearings, and no comment period? There were not enough opportunities for the public to be adequately informed in a timely manner in this transaction. The Port, however, did not sign a lease with Shell Oil. The lease was with Foss Maritime. There was at least one public meeting where people commented on this issue. I feel strongly that the port should have provided the opportunity for additional community engagement around this transaction. In my view, the port showed a lack of transparency and a shortcoming in governance. I believe that Port staff was tasked with finding opportunities for revenue from Terminal 5 without adequate and specific guidance on environmental considerations and public process. Are you satisfied by the way Seattle Tacoma International Airport is currently being run? How can the Port be a better neighbor to people living near the airport? Although the airport does many things well, there is a significant need to improve passenger, baggage and cargo throughput at the airport. There is also an acknowledged need to improve the facilities that process international arrivals. The design, cost and implementation of facility improvements needs to be

5 comprehensive and coordinated among all of the affected constituents. The plan for funding facility improvements must be balanced and fair to those who will be paying for it. I have lived in the local communities near the airport for over 30 years. My family and I currently live directly under the south portion of the third runway flight path. I have a deep knowledge of the local communities surrounding the airport. I believe there are many opportunities for the Port to partner with the neighboring communities in advancing economic development and being generally more responsive to community concerns. What important state and local issues have you worked on (or taken an interest in) that you feel aren't getting enough attention from elected leaders and the media? 1. I am concerned about the region s transportation issues and their impact on our local economy. While transportation gets attention when there is a funding measure on the ballot or a proposal before lawmakers, suitable solutions are not forthcoming. Without an adequate transportation infrastructure, our local economy cannot thrive. 2. I am deeply committed to adequate funding for public education. Class size reductions that are part of the McCleary decision can never be realized unless schools have enough space for more classes. The super majority requirement for funding public school construction is a major barrier. Recently Representative Mia Gregerson proposed practical, thoughtful, bipartisan legislation that would have modified the super majority requirement for public school bond passage. It did not survive the legislative process. I affirm that all the information provided in response to this questionnaire is true, complete and correct, to the best of my ability, and that no relevant matter has been omitted.
