3 The longest rivers The Yangtze River, or Chang Jiang is the longest river in Asia, and the third longest in the world. It is also the tallest mountain in the world from base to peak. Mount Everest is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. 6 Main Functions of MIIT To put forward strategies and policies for a new model of industrialization, coordinate and solve major issues occurring in the process of the new model of industrialization, and formulate development programs for the industries, communication sector and course of ICT aplications;to facilitate the strategic readjustment, optimization and upgrading of the industrial structures, push forward the intefration between informatization and industrialization, and promote the building of a scientific research and production system for arms equipement that can be used in both civil and mulitary cases. To put forward opinions on the scales and directions of fixed asset investment(including foreign investment and overseas investment) in industries, communication sector and ICT applications, and on the arrangements of the state fiscal funds for construction; to review, verify and approve fixd asset investment projects that are under the state programs and within the scale specified in the state annual plan according to the authorization of the State Council. 6 6
