1 The Forum for Australia s Public Sector Managers & Leaders Melbourne Thursday 16th & Friday 17th April Park Hyatt Melbourne

2 Conference Overview Widely considered the peak leadership event on the Australian Public Sector event calendar, this national program provides a forum for public sector managers to discuss contemporary leadership and management practice in the broad Public Sector realm. Attracting delegates from all states and territories (from Local, State and Federal agencies), the Conference provides a vital platform to explore both personal and organisational leadership whilst giving public sector leaders the chance to develop invaluable sector-wide networks. Key leadership themes are explored through case studies and real time strategies presented by senior leaders and leadership experts. Essentially, the Conference aims to strengthen the current talent pool of public sector leaders. The conference was valuable not just because of the breadth of content but because it encouraged conversation and enabled sharing of insights and experiences with like-minded people. Thanks to the Speakers, participants and the organisers for an engaging and rewarding forum John Butler, Program Leader Learning and Culture Kingston City Council Conference Objective The aim of The National Public Sector Managers & Leaders Conference 2015 will be to educate and prepare managers for the leadership challenges they will face in the forthcoming decade. Emphasis will be placed on evidence based leadership strategy and discussion will be built around real world leadership examples. A strong focus will also be given to interorganisational collaboration and connectivity. The overarching theme for this year s Conference is Developing and leading a high performing and values driven Australian Public Sector of the future. The Conference will examine how individual leaders and managers can effectively transfer ownership to their teams and in doing so empower a more united and aligned Public Sector equipped to tackle the challenges of the next decade. Furthermore, Conference presentations will explore ways in which individual leaders can contribute to the creation of a sustainable APS culture of high performance, shared ownership and values based decision making. Informed by on-going research conducted by ASAM across all levels of Australian Public Sector business, the theming for the 2015 Conference will provide value to all Public Sector leaders managers.

3 Audience In line with previous years, attendees will represent a wide variety of organisations from Federal, State and Local government covering every Australian state and territory. Content sessions and guest speakers will address key elements of effective leadership theory and practice, ensuring the program is of genuine relevance to Public Sector leaders and managers. As in previous years an allocation of seating has been reserved to ensure representation from aspiring leaders, irrespective of age and years of service in the Public Sector. Guest Speakers and Presenters As the nation s peak and most highly attended Public Sector leadership forum, the Conference attracts an outstanding line-up of senior leaders and leadership experts as guest speakers and presenters. These experts have come together with a common objective, to develop leadership expertise throughout the public service. As in previous years, the 2015 program will be enhanced and supported by collaboration with key organisations and individuals from Australia s diverse public sector. Presentation Themes With the overarching theme in mind the following sub themes will be addressed by both Conference presenters and guest speakers: Serving the community: Fostering a culture of commitment and accountability Stakeholder engagement: Managing and meeting diverse expectations Using innovation to build the foundation of tomorrow s public service Leading through change: Building personal and team resiliance Creating and leading high performing teams Embracing social media as a catalyst for change My journey: Insights from accomplished Public Sector Leaders Leadership for the greater good: Championing values, leadership ethics and social justice Leadership vision: Leading Australia through the next decade For the good of the Nation: The enduring importance of strong and effective leadership in the public service
