3 3. Know the rights and obligations of citizens in their relations with the Public Administrations Philosophy of Law ECTS credits: 6 Semester: 1 The module Philosophy of Law is usually described as an eminently theoretical rather than practical module. It all depends on how the legal components are analysed and presented. It can present that view, if the philosophy of Law is limited to defining the most abstract concepts (justice, society, State, norms), the functions that they fulfil, their legal interpretation and the relationship between law and morality, among other themes. The iusphilosophers, with a more practical perspective, will centre their attention on the real and current expression of these concepts: the Democratic State and the rule of law and the current political class, the relationship between religion and law, pluralist societies, the relationship between law and morality in legal norms and in judicial decisions, overcoming positions of ius-naturalism and positivism, analysing post-positivism and neo-constitutionalism; evaluation of theories of justice utilitarianism, liberalism, egalitarian liberalism and so many others-. We shall try to go beyond the connection between theory and practice in the legal perspective. We avoid falling into the stereotype of the Legal Guidelines for a jurist that merely applies rules. The relationship between Law, Economy and Justice is essential for a satisfactory understanding of the key points with which our graduate students will have to work, in the future. The Philosophy of Law module places special emphasis on the theory of Justice, for which reason it has close links with the economy. Learning outcomes 1. Know the historical and present-day currents on justice 2. Know the essential features of the principal contributions of the iusphilosophers throughout history. 3. Know and differentiate theories on justice and the rationality of Law. 4. Understand the basic principles of liberty, equality, security, and solidarity. 5. Assimilate the requirements that the theory of Justice implies for Law International Public Law II 1. Know how to draft legal reports on questions of current affairs with consequences for international order and particularly present-day international law. 2 nd Year 3/6

4 2. Know how to debate and express in public with a rational order and grounded in present-day topics that are of concern to International Law. 3. Gain an analytical understanding of the central questions that concern present-day International Law. 4. Gain familiarity with human rights as they are protected in the set of international and European regulations, taking particular note of the principles of equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for people living with disability. 5. Categorize and debate behaviours in which the student can expound knowledge on the protection and defence of human rights. 6. Raise awareness of the values that are defended and advanced in presentday international Law, in particular the idea of peace and the idea of democracy in the present-day globalized world. 7. Support the culture of non-violence as well respect for those who hold different ideas and precepts. 8. Become aware of sustainable development and the preservation of the environment from the standpoint of international and European regulations. 9. Know and understand the finer points that International Law presents in the legal framework. 10. Be able to apply technical language taken from International Law with precision. 11. Understand the regulatory interrelation between State, European and international norms in the areas under study. 12. Gain a critical capacity to analyze the regulations in force, real practical cases, decisions of the tribunals and courts, in matters concerning International Law Labour Law II 1. Know the structure of legal-labour law legislation, especially its collective aspect. 2. Know and understand the finer points of legal-labour legislation, especially as regards the system of sources. 3. Know the rules under which Labour Law is applied to social reality and learn to use them. 4.
