1 From: andrew montealegre Date: Thu, Mar 1, 2012 at 7:22 AM Subject: One Council District for Glassell Park To: HONORABLE HERB WESSON JR., CHAIR CITY OF LOS ANGELES RULES, ELECTION AND INTER-GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE City Hall 10 th Floor Room North Spring Street Los Angeles, CA Honorable Committee Board Members: We, the Glassell Park Stakeholders, board members and Affiliates of the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council (GPNC) have unanimously agreed to maintain ONE COUNCIL DISTRICT for the Community of Glassell Park. We also believe that the unified Community of Glassell Park must remain in the Northeast Area due to our common interests, community plans, and shared common goals that are compatible and cohesive with the Northeast Region of the City of Los Angeles. We ask the Los Angeles City Council Rules, Election, and Inter-governmental Relations Committee Board Members to vote unanimously to adjust the maps to keep our neighborhood WHOLE, in ONE COUNCIL DISTRICT, and to maintain ONE UNIFYING VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY OF GLASSELL PARK. Thank-you for your efforts to listen to the voices of Northeast Constituents to keep our celebrated and historic Neighborhood whole and intact. Thank-you and have a great day. Respectfully, Andrew Montealegre Member Glassell Park Neighborhood Council Economic Development and Land Use Subcommittee Andrew Montealegre Casa de la Montaña Alegre 3854 Cazador Street Los Angeles, CA montana.alegre@yahoo.com cell land line /fax website: urbanplanningstudios.com

2 From: christine peters Date: Thu, Mar 1, 2012 at 10:42 AM Subject: Fwd: Proposed City Council Districts To: Cc: Marisol Salguero Jose Gardea Alejandra Marroquin Sally Martinez Marcel Porras Eduardo Soriano-Hewitt I am requesting that the proposed city council boundaries between CD1 and CD13 are moved from Park Drive/Sargent/Vista Gordo back to Stadium way as they have been in the past. Currently, if those of us who live Park adjacent have issues with what is going on in Elysian Park immediately near our homes, we can call CD13 - we as constituents and the issues both reside in CD13. With the new proposed park adjacent boundaries, we will need to call CD1. I am concerned that we will be asking for CD1 constituent resources to be dedicated to issues that impact CD13 constituents, and that our issues may not get the attention that we expect in a timely manner due to expected prioritizing. Elysian Park is a major urban park and it is fitting that the two council offices continue to share both the resource and responsibilities. Please work together to move this boundary back to Stadium Way. Moving the boundary back to Stadium Way will affect no population numbers as there are no residents (legally anyway!) living in the Parkland between Stadium and the Park side streets of Elysian Park. Thank you for your attention, and in advance for your efforts: Christine Peters 2327 Vista Gordo Dr. Echo Park,

5 From: Jesse Medina To: Sent: Thursday, March 1, :28 PM Subject: Redistricting Proposal Honorable Jose Huizar, Councilmember, Fourteenth District Honorable Edward Reyes Councilmember, First District I have resided in the section of Glassell Park which has remained within the Fourteenth Council District for over fifteen years. As you may be aware, Glassell Park is currently divided up into three separate Council Districts. I'm dismayed to learn that the proposal advanced by the Redistricting Commission will continue to keep Glassell Park a Community divided; splintered and partitioned between the First and Fourteenth Districts by arbitrary Council District lines. Following the U.S. Census the Redistricting Commission is mandated by the City Charter to create Council Districts that are "compact" and respect Community boundaries. As anyone can clearly see by the proposed redistricting jigsaw puzzle, the Redistricting Commissions proposal does not attempt to do either. The 14th District now resembles a backward "C" connecting Glassell Park to far-off Boyle Heights and Downtown L.A.; communities which it shares little in common with. The Glassell Park community needs to be united, and to remain in Northeast Los Angeles. Members of the L.A. Neighborhood Council Coalition (LANCC) have offered a proposal that does not divideany Neighborhood Council Districts, while keeping almost all Communities intact...because Neighborhood Councils are collections of communities. This proves that Communities can be kept intact...if that is the priority. It is clear that keeping Neighborhoods, Neighborhood Councils, and Communities intact was not the priority of the Redisctricting Commisssion. I strongly urge you to veto the Commissions Redistricting proposal when it comes up for consideration by the City Council and to consider proposals where Neighborhoods, Neighborhood Councils, and Community boundaries are respected. Regards Jesse Medina Los Angeles, California
