1 APRIL 2014 CHUMASH LODGE 90 THE BEAR CLAW Chiefly Speaking CAMPOREE FELLOWSHIP Salutations Brothers, Spring is thoroughly upon us and that can only mean one thing: the spring Ordeal is coming soon. Thank you to those who went to troops and conducted elections for each troop. The Ordeal will be at Rancho Alegre from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18 and we will have an LEC on Saturday. Get your registration in early to avoid the late fee I encourage as many people to attend as possible and further urge any Arrowmen who are eligible for Brotherhood to take the next step on your journey and become Brotherhood members. If you are planning on attending the Ordeal, there is a chance for you to continue the legacy of cheerful service inherent in the OA by volunteering to be an Elangomat. Don t forget that Vigil nominations will be due on Friday the 16th at the registration desk for the Ordeal. Just a reminder, there is still time to sign up for NOAC Seeing as this will be the hundredth anniversary of the Order of the Arrow, this will be a once in a lifetime event and there will be a wealth of anniversary patches to be traded, events to be attended, and friends to be made. 2 Advisor s Corner Spring is here and with it many exciting activities for Arrowmen to participate in The Spring Ordeal is just around the corner and will take place at Rancho Alegre the weekend of May There will be many projects to accomplish at the camp this year and many of them will help prepare for the upcoming summer camp sessions. The Ordeal is an excellent opportunity to renew the fellowship that makes the OA one of the great Scouting organizations as well as assist our council with valuable projects that enhance the camping experience for countless scouts. As this is the 50th anniversary of Rancho Alegre, this will indeed be a special ordeal, and it will be memorialized with a special 50th anniversary Rancho Alegre patch as well as two rockers that will only be available to OA Spring Ordeal participants. Please complete and mail the attached registration form today or go to the council website to register. For those who are eligible to attain the Brotherhood Honor, I encourage you to seal your membership in the Order by taking this next step. The Lodge needs your active participation in order to grow and be successful and the attainment of Brotherhood membership will show your commitment to the high ideals of scouting and service to others. Please complete the included Brotherhood form and bring it with you to the ordeal. Next year is a special year for the Order of the Arrow, the 100th anniversary of its founding combined with the National Order of the Arrow Conference in Michigan This will be a once in a lifetime event and I want to encourage everyone to sign up to attend. Included with this issue of the Bear Claw are the registration form for NOAC as well as an order form for a very special set of patches designed to commemorate this special occasion. In closing, if you are aware of fellow Arrowmen who have allowed their membership in the OA to lapse, please encourage them to renew their membership by paying their 2014 dues. Registration form is available in the issue of the BearClaw, and online at the Council website. Vigil Nominations Vigil Nominations for the 2014 class will be accepted until May 16. Vigil Elections will be conducted at the Spring Ordeal on May 17. The Official Vigil Nomination Form is available on the Lodge website. Happy 100th Birthday Order of the Arrow If you want to get in on the 100th Birthday Party of the Order of the Arrow in 2015, then you have to go to NOAC.
