2 ITC Technology Center of the Regional Government of the Canary Islands, attached to the Ministry of Employment, Industry and Trade The Institute carries out projects and services in the areas of Research, Development and Innovation, in close collaboration with universities, R&D institutions and companies of the Canary Islands and abroad

Renewable Energy SYSTEMS Development (including energy storage and distributed generation) EL HIERRO 100% first island 100 % RES Absorption cooling: 1st solar-thermal facility in the Canary Islands Characterization of renewable energy RESOURCES Dense network of radiometric stations (22) allowing development of prediction models for RES. 13 Renewable Energies GRID STABILITY STUDIES: finding the maximum admissible levels for RES penetration, and proposing actions to reinforce insular electrical grids. ENERGY STORAGE: solutions allowing storage of RES excess produced during valley intervals, and injecting it back to the grid during demand peaks. Finding energy vectors for RES applications in Transport. TEST PLATFORMS: outsanding wind/sun conditions provide the Canary Islands with a comparative advantage for testing RES systems: DISTRIBUTED GENERATION MULTI-MW MACHINES RES MAXIMIZATION: based on work on El Hierro experience, the experience will be extrapolated to 100 % RES models for other islands 100% RES El Hierro 100 % RES Fuerteventura 100% RES La Graciosa

14 Water Technologies Fresh water (and energy) supply to remote areas Sustainable water management (sustainable waste water treatment, sea- and brackish water desalination (using renewable energy sources) Evaluation and protection of water quality ITC activity in Western Africa: 15 years experience in the development of rural electrification and water supply (desalination) projects in remote areas of Morocco, Mauritania, Cape Verde and Tunisia, applying innovative renewable energy solutions
