5 SPECIAL VALVES Page 05 SPECIAL BUTTERFLY VALVES FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE Predominantly for use in metallurgical works, incinerators and the construction of industrial furnaces, OHL Gutermuth designs industrial valves meeting all operation-specific requirements by the use of heat-proof and nonscaling materials, with stress and deformation stability in the high-temperature range through the use of lowribbing components and rotationally symmetrical constructional elements and with the least possible transmission of heat from the media into the environment. In addition, if required, outfitting can be carried out with brick lining and extended outer bearings. Special designs together with highly heat resistant or scaling resistant materials fulfill all the functional requirements imposed on the valve, even in the red hot state.

6 Page 06 SPECIAL VALVES >> VACUUM AND HIGH-PRESSURE VACUUM AND LOW PRESSURE SOLUTION Depending on the application in question, shut-off elements (valves) in vacuum systems can also be subject to special requirements, in addition to the general technical requirements for shut-off elements that are typical of vacuum technology and have to be taken into consideration in engineering the products. The minimum displaced ultimate pressure and the high flow resistance of components in the molecular flow range must be taken into consideration in configuring and selecting vacuum valves. In addition, minimum leakage rates are required for the valve housing and valve seat.

Firesafe butterfly valves are pressure-rated up to ANSI CL and come in sizes up to 2800mm. Their Zero Leakage Quarter Turn high-pressure butterfly valve is designed for abrasive services and extreme temperatures.

The solution to the problem lies in particular in the flow geometry of the wearing parts of these valves and in the material selection and coating. The body, disc and shaft are made abrasion-resistant and robust to wear. Special body protection with a solid hardmetal or ceramic insert, solid disc of hard metal or ceramic as weli as protective sleeves of the shafts in the critical transition region between body and shaft ideally satisfy the abrasive operating conditions.
