1 End of the Plastics Directive (EU) 10/2011 transitional period with consequences for suppliers of plastic layer pads, container producers, and fillers As a quality-conscious filler proceed without risk we inform, you decide!

2 What exactly will change from regarding the layer pads In submitting a declaration of conformity the pool operator must be aware of all substances contained in the layer pads, and must document compliance with the directive s requirements using migration tests (SML values) including for authorities and certification bodies (e.g. IFS). The legal assessment of the regulation: Why does this concern me and my business If you do not know what substances migrate to the surface of the layer pad, you also do not know what substances are getting into the empty container, and from there despite rinsing coming into contact with your product. Packaging must strictly protect food from contamination not only because it is required by law, but in the interest of everyone! 3 Why isnʼt cleaning the layer pads after every use sufficient Because the source of contamination is not just about the hygienic, food-safety nature of the layer pad surface after cleaning, but unavoidably is also about the pad material itself. Only fulfilling both requirements can guarantee conformity and food integrity and therefore the protection of your product! What is the risk Isnʼt the pad just a kind of secondary packaging The risk is that contamination of substances of concern from the layer pad into the filling product cannot be excluded if the composition of the pad material is not known. And from experience we know that contamination can be conveyed via direct contact with the container finish from the surface of the layer pad to the filling product. If the pad is secondary packaging, hygienic cleaning after each use would anyway be unnecessary. Indirect contact with the food involves the layer pad, it is a food contact material, and by no means is about secondary packaging! See the directive (EU) 10/2011 paragraph 3 As a quality-conscious filler proceed without risk we inform, you decide! P 3/6

4 What advantages does the directive provide my company with, and me personally as a consumer Packaging in conformance with this standard ensures consistent safety for the qualitative characteristics of empty containers during storage and transportation in all respects and thus also that of your filling product. The only way to avoid additional risk is by having pads that conform with the plastics directive! How do I know if the layer pad supplier has implemented the directive Request and check the pad supplier s declaration of conformity as to whether it meets the new legal requirements from the Because ultimately you should not take any risks in the safety and security of your foodstuffs! (see specifications). A layer pad cleaned by Green Plate supports and simplifies your risk assessment! // Assumption of liability: By providing a compliant layer pad Green Plate accepts its share of responsibility for risk-free food. // Ecology: A compliant pad provides ecological added value because it offers the filler the potential to save resources during rinsing empty containers.
