Water Disinfection The Concept World over, nearly 3 million people die each year due to waterborne diseases out of which 1.9 million are children. Waterborne diseases can be controlled only by point-of- use disinfection. The implementation of "Safe Water System (SWS) developed by the Centre for Disease Control, USA and UNDP is being adopted by many NGOs and Govt. organizations, in most developing countries including India.

Water Disinfection The Strategy The strategy is to make water safe through disinfection and safe storage at the point of use.

Why Disinfection? To kill pathogens causing disease like Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis, Diarrhea, Dysentery To ensure SAFE drinking water To prevent Algae and Fungus formation To keep water tanks and pipelines clean

Water Disinfection Boiling Micro-filtration Ozonization Chlorination o Bleaching Powder o Chlorine Gas o Liquid Chlorine o Electro-Chlorination UV Radiation Common Methods

Water Disinfection Search for Ideal Disinfectant For a developing country s rural and urban drinking water disinfection an ideal disinfectant should be: Effective and reliable in killing Pathogens Optimum residual concentration during storage Potentially safe to store, handle & use by layman Have adequate self life without loosing potency Should not make water harmful or unpleasant for drinking Should be affordable

Sodium Hypochlorite The Ideal Disinfectant Sodium Hypochlorite of low concentration meets most of the requirements of an ideal disinfectant. The most prevalent chlorine products in the United States are aqueous solutions of 5.25% 6.15% sodium hypochlorite. They have a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, do not leave toxic residues, are unaffected by water hardness, are inexpensive and fast acting, remove dried or fixed organisms and bio-films from surfaces, and have a low incidence of serious toxicity Department of Health & Human Services USA in CDC Guidelines 2008 Sodium Hypochlorite is generated in Electro Chlorinator using common salt, electricity and drinking water. It is: A simple, inexpensive and robust technology appropriate for the developing world Implemented in 5 continents and 20 countries of the world

Sodium Hypochlorite Generation by Electro-Chlorination a proven Disinfection System for Rural & Urban Drinking Water Brought to you by Aeolus Sustainable Bio-Energy Pvt Ltd

- Advantages - Sodium Hypochlorite generation unit offers: Powerful biocide and disinfecting agent Safe and economical disinfection Efficient protection against micro & macro organic fouling Use no chemicals other than common salt Simple and easy to operate and maintain Plug & Play operations Operations can be fully automatic as per requirements Wide range of proven applications Globally accepted, preferred even by United Nations Organization for UNDP projects.

The Robust Technology Sodium Hypochlorite Generator On site hypochlorite generator Works on principle of Electrolysis Uses patented electrodes Design developed on 30 years indigenous research by Internationally renowned Scientist Holds hundreds of satisfied customers around the globe NaCl + H 2 O + Electric Energy NaOCl + H 2 TR AC

- The Process On-site sodium hypochlorite generation process uses three common consumables : salt, water and electricity. On-site generation systems operate by feeding softened / RO water into a brine dissolver. The salt dissolves to form a brine solution The salt solution is allowed to react through the electrolytic cells, which apply a low voltage DC current to the brine to produce Sodium Hypochlorite The Sodium Hypochlorite can now be stored in the day tank for disinfection

The Ease of Operations No need to depend external suppliers / Vendors. No skilled and technically qualified persons are required to operate the system. Simple tools and instruments needed to maintain the system. Skid mounted modular unit. Chlorine readily available at reasonable cost. Can treat large volumes of water. Low Power requirement. The operation is fully controlled.
