1 TransCanada s Proposed North Montney Mainline Project Aitken Creek Section and Kahta Section Peace River Regional District Council Presentation July 25 th, 2013 TransCanada Corporation (TSX/NYSE: TRP) TransCanada is a leading North American energy infrastructure company with over 60 years of experience in energy transportation. 2 North Montney Mainline Project - Scope Location: Peace River Regional District, the pipeline will be approximately 305 (km). Associate Facilities: metering facilities, valve sites and possible compression facilities. Pipeline: The south end will connect with the northern end of the existing Groundbirch Mainline (Saturn Section), located about 35 km southwest of Fort St. John. The north end will be about 190 km northwest of Fort St. John and will tie into a new meter station. North Montney Mainline Project - Scope The North Montney Mainline is broken out into two sections; Aitken Creek Section in the south end and the Kahta Section in the north end. The Aitken Creek section will be approximately 180 km of up to 48 inch diameter pipeline The Kahta section will be approximately 125 km of up to 48 inch diameter pipeline connecting to the north end of the Aitken Creek section. 2

3 Project Drivers and Necessity B.C. has an abundance of natural gas resources, and new natural gas pipelines such as the proposed North Montney Mainline (Aitken Creek and Kahta sections) will provide the capacity needed to transport natural gas from northeast B.C. to demanding energy markets. 4 Your Safety, Our Integrity TransCanada is committed to designing, constructing and operating its facilities to ensure the safety of its employees and the public: Construction and operations will be in compliance with all safety and environmental guidelines and regulations Emergency Response Plans will be developed specifically for each project, implementing the most modern strategies, techniques, and equipment Construction Our pipelines are designed, built and operated to ensure the safety of our transportation systems TransCanada uses top quality steel and welding techniques and engineer s its pipelines to meet or exceed the CSA standards Pipeline construction involves clearing and grading of the ROW in order to safely allow for stringing of the pipe, welding, testing and coating of the pipe, and space to ditch, lower and backfill continuous sections of pipeline Above ground facilities will support the pipeline operation Once construction is complete, the land surface will be reclaimed to an equivalent land capacity to the extent practical Measures will be taken to establish a vegetative cover that is compatible with surrounding vegetation and land use 4

5 Environment We are committed to identifying and preserving important natural and cultural landscapes near the projects Our intent is to minimize potential effects on the land and environment Environmental studies are conducted to assess: Vegetation Wildlife Soils Wetlands Aquatics (watercourses and fisheries) Archaeology/Paleontology Noise Emissions Environmental protection plan will be developed and filed as part of the application and implemented during construction Land Consultation and Engagement TransCanada has acquired over 10,000 easements in the past six years. The TransCanada Land team partners with Land Brokers who share our values of Integrity, Collaboration, Responsibility, and Innovation. The Land team will be responsible for landowner notifications, acquiring permissions and securing agreements to enter and use private lands for field survey work, environmental field studies, geo-technical investigations, and pipeline construction activities. Land team commits to provide meaningful and consistent information to all landowners and welcome their input and feedback into routing design throughout the consultation process. TransCanada s Land Representative will assist in the resolution of Landowner concerns. TransCanada provides fair and equitable compensation for all land rights. 5
