2 Bujagali - the basic facts 250 MW hydropower project ( 5 x 50 MW units) and 100 km of transmission lines Determined to be the least cost power option for Uganda $862m total project cost providing long term power at 6.5 to7.0 cents/kwh for 30 year term Is financed by 10 international lending institutions BEL Sponsors: Sithe Global and Industrial Promotion Services BEL will operate for 30 years the project reverts to the GOU Relocation of over 700 individuals who have been resettled and fully compensated Operations soon 2

5 Time line of Bujagali Initial developer advances project: performs feasibility studies, preliminary design, social & environmental programs, purchases lands and begins relocations. Financial support withdrawn in GOU seeks new developer. Sponsors reply and awarded project 2006 Sponsors form BEL, advance GOU agreements, financial loans and EPC bidding activities 2007 GOU agreements signed, EPC contract awarded (construction starts), financial close reached 2011 First generation expected & operations to commence 2012 Guaranteed completion expected 5

6 Current Project Status Construction Overview Construction began in July 2007 (Salini Costruttori as EPC) Civil works mostly complete, except for newly dewatered area (Right embankment 85% complete) Second stage diversion completed All 5 units are in electro-mechanical installation process 1 st unit commissioning expected November 2011 Substantial ti Completion Date expected April 2012 Operations Overview Third party O&M contract has been initiated (gasnatural Fenosa) Training for operations has begun 6

15 What Bujagali means for the GoU Will provide a long term (100 years) renewable resource power facility Will nearly double the generating gcapacity of Uganda Project will offset expensive temporary thermal power generation that has a heavy financial burden on the GoU Will conserve resources by re-using water already released from Lake Victoria (benefiting neighboring and downstream countries) Bujagali shows large investments can be successfully implemented within Uganda and this will attract other private investment t capital Reliable power will stimulate industry and increase jobs 15
