Our current clientele includes ISRO (Department of Space), Engineers India Limited, Embassy properties, Valmark Homes, Nandi Housing etc. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF NATURE OF PROJECT Mobile Composting Solution *Picture for representation only, actual machines vary in shapes and sizes 6

Process followed and advantages The existing technology which is available as a centralized unit is decentralized and the shredding and blending unit is fixed upon a mini truck with minimum blended material storage size of 1Ton/machine. *Picture for representation only, actual machines vary in shapes and sizes Shredding & Blending The machine is sent to the bulk generator site every day at an agreed time where the segregated wet waste is sent to a designated location inside the premises. The truck is assigned a dedicated parking spot and with a provision for power point for shredding and blending the waste. The waste is weighed before loading it into the shredder. Our machine is capable of shredding & blending 30 Kgs of wet waste every 10 minutes, hence it requires around 30 minutes time to shred and blend approximately 100Kgs of waste which is the average waste generation and the actual shredding time will vary with capacities of bulk generators. The shredded and blended waste is automatically moved to a storage container in the truck which avoids any spillage during transportation. The power consumed for shredding and blending of approx. 100 Kgs of waste is 7.5 Kw with approx. 1Hr duration. 7

Advantages of Shredding and Blending at source: Ensured that the waste is definitely converted into compost and does not end up in land fill The lengthy curing time of the wet waste is offloaded and avoided at the premises of the bulk generator Hard organic waste such as cooked bones, mutton, chicken and fish pieces, corn cobs, coconut shells, mango seeds, dried tender coconut shells can also be shredded hence avoiding segregation and sending out for land fill Environment hazards from waste is avoided during transportation Hygienic process, does not have any smell and health hazards Avoids dumping of waste in empty plots Daily treatment of wet waste avoids accumulation & hazardous environmental damages Cost of routine maintenance of men and material is minimized Transportation & Further Treatment: The blended waste is then transported to the de-centralized composting plant for further treatment. Once the truck arrives at the plant, the vehicle s storage container is connected to a conveyer to move the blended material to the In-vessel Unit. The in-vessel unit is a cylindrical chamber which has the capacity to hold 8 days waste. The in-vessel is designed to maintain controlled temperature and air inside the in-vessel which helps the waste to biodegrade and produce quality compost. Once the decomposition is completed the compost is pushed out of the in-vessel automatically and the same can be immediately packed and sent out for usage. The complete process is time based and automated hence reducing regular intervention and manpower. The in-vessel can be built from 2 Tons up to 5 Tons capacity per day and the plant treatment capacity can be increased in modules according to the demand. Each 2 ton in-vessel requires a space of 15 width by 60 length by 12 height clearance. The power consumed for treating of approx. 2000Kgs of waste/day is 100 Kw/day. Advantages of In-vessel curing system: No issues of odour as decomposition process occurs in the vessel Less manpower required as the system is time based and automated. Less space required compared to conventional composting techniques. Weather conditions do not hamper the process of composting as the decomposition happens inside the vessel under controlled temperature and aeration Flies, rodents and birds, are drastically reduced because organic material is completely decomposed and is not kept in the open. No leachate issue hence reducing contamination of ground water. Compost production is enhanced due to reduced curing cycle 8

Schematic representation of In-vessel curing modules: *Picture for representation only, actual machines vary in shapes and sizes NEED FOR THE PROJECT With the population of Bangalore touching 10 million we generate around 4000 Tons of garbage every day out of which more than 60% is Organic Waste which can be composted. Post orders from BBMP for bulk generators to treat waste in-house, many bulk generators have installed in-house Organic Waste Composters and have tied up with waste service providers for managing other waste. Although the order is to mandatorily treat the waste in-house most of the bulk generators have been sending waste out through BBMP or other service providers which directly or indirectly is going into the landfill. The major problem for most of the bulk generators which include apartments, group housing, convention halls & Resorts has been the initial investment, recurring maintenance expenses and the space required to set up in-house treatment units and disposal of the compost. We have hence designed a decentralized approach to treat the wet waste scientifically and without causing harm to the environment. IMPORTS VS. INDEGENOUS PRODUCTION Our machine is designed and manufactured in India; this indigenous product is a testimony of both make in India and Swach Bharat Campaign. EMPLOYMENT GENERATION Our composting facility with 20 Tonnes capacity will provide employment to persons (Drivers, Helpers and Operators), from the unorganised sector which will help them to live a life of respect. 9

5 SITE SELECTION 3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 10

Type of Interlinked Projects: None Location: Plot No. 89 & 90, Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road Industrial Area, Kyalasanahalli Village, Jigani Hobli, Anekal Taluk, Bangalore Urban District, Karnataka. Topo-Sheet extract & location map are enclosed. Details of Alternative Sites considered: None, at this stage. The present project is being taken-up on a trial basis. Depending on the success, alternative locations, will be explored. Basis of selecting the proposed site: This site has been selected as this falls under the Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road Industrial area, developed by KIADB. The said activity of MSW processing, is an industrial activity, only industrial layout was considered. Also, this industrial layout is strategically located to many domestic and commercial bulk waste generators. Size and magnitude of operation: The said facility, at full capacity, can treat about 20 Tons of segregated Organic Wet Waste per day. Process Description: Organic waste is mixed with measured quantities of wood shavings/garden Waste and saw dust. While decaying activities are underway inside Organic Waste, added aerobic micro-organisms are also in action throughout the vessel, under controlled temperature and aeration, breaking all organic matter down into humus-like material that is consistent in quality and can be used as a soil-enhancing agent. Unlike outdoor composting, the Wet Waste Composter, offers a highly controlled process, which accelerates the natural process of decaying. Regardless of outdoor conditions, the composting temperature inside the vessel, is always higher than 100 F/38 C. In less than 8-10 days the composting process is completed inside the vessel and the compost is discharged automatically from the vessel. 11

Raw material required along with estimated quantity, likely source, marketing area of finished product/s, mode of transport of raw material and finished product. Raw material is segregated Organic Wet Waste which is half processed at the premise of bulk generators. Sources are apartments, commercial establishments, hotels, convention, marriage & party halls, the finished product is organic compost which is sold for Agriculture, horticulture and floriculture uses. The half processed organic wet waste is transported in closed containers which are fitted on vehicles. Finished product is transported in bulk either in open/closed trucks/gunny bags Availability of water, its source: Around 1000 Liters /Day required only for domestic use and for gardening is sourced through tankers or KIADB water supply. No water is used in the composting process. Power required and source: Power required is 40Hp of installed power, currently power is taken through BESCOM, the facility has 60HP of installed power Quantity of Waste generated & scheme for their management: Approximately Kgs of waste will be generated every day The proposed project itself is a Solid Waste Management Facility, hence all wet waste will be composted at site and dry waste will be sent for recycling through vendors. 12
