Verify that the mechanical structure is designed and adapted for PV modules installation (incl. modules weight, external extra load ). Verify that SILLIA modules are in perfect condition before installation. Use fixing components adapted for such kind of installation and designed for supporting external extra load (snow, wind ). Ensure that the other PV system components have no interference with PV modules, neither from mechanical perspective nor electrical one. Work in dry working conditions with dry tools. An opaque covering over modules should be used during installation and any type of work on the electrical connections. Drilling hole in the glass or aluminium frame is strictly forbidden. Modules must not be installed in the vicinity of highly flammable gases, vapors or dust (e.g. filling stations, gaz tanks, paint spraying equipment ). For roof installation, modules must be mounted on a fire-resistant roof covering rated for the application. Keep this User Instructions near the PV installation. Page 3 sur 7

4 3 Mechanical and electrical assembly Preliminary reminder: Application class : A Safety class : II Max. system voltage : 1000V Refer also to the corresponding product datasheet. 3.1 General assembly instructions : Ensure that valid standards, buildings specifications and safety rules to prevent accident are fully respected. Use an assembly systems which ensure a sufficient air flow under the PV module (SILLIA recommends a distance min. 40mm under the PV module). SILLIA recommends to use clamping systems on rails (example: Fisher Solarfix). Tightening torque: 3 Nm, maximum 6 Nm. In case of use of different installation system, refer to corresponding specific manufacturer specifications. Structure components and other components in contact with the frame must be manufactured in compatible materials with aluminium. SILLIA recommends to use only accredited fixing systems and/or roof top integration systems. SILLIA has been developing partnerships with manufacturers of fixing / integration systems: the list of systems which passed technical compatibility evaluation with our modules is available at Nevertheless, other accredited systems can be used if wholly respecting this manual and product datasheet. 3.2 Fixing: Installation must comply with specific specifications and recommendations of fixing systems manufacturers. Secure working area in order to prevent slip and fall. PV modules must not fall. Nothing shall fall on PV modules surfaces. Walking on PV module is strictly forbidden. Min. 2 persons are required for PV module handling, use frame only PV Modules positioning and orientation: Fixing of the module according to the scheme below: Page 4 sur 7

5 l = 1/3 1/4 L for 72P/Mxxx-V and 72P/Mxxx l = 1/4 1/5 L for 60P/Mxxx-V and 60P/Mxxx L SILLIA s PV modules can be oriented either in portrait or landscape. Attention PV modules must be in contact with min. 4 points of the structure, fixed with components adapted to the frame height. Thermal expansion of frames has to be considered. (SILLIA recommends min. 5mm distance between two modules) Materials of assembling components must be considered to avoid contact corrosion Electrical connection (Risk of electrical shock!) In normal operating conditions, PV modules can create current and/or voltage higher than the ones given in datasheets at STC (Standard Test Conditions). Consideration of a safety factor 1,25 for Isc and Voc is necessary for the design of electrical components and also of fuses and commands connected to the PV modules. The modules are provided with factory-assembled cables and connectors. Ensure that other cables and connectors used in the PV system are compliant with specifications and in a perfect status. Protect the cables against possible damaging. PV modules shall not to be in contact with stagnating water. Electrical connectors shall not to be located in an area used for water flow. SILLIA recommends to avoid that Junction Box be oriented downwards in the direction of inclination. Pay attention to direct current: risk of injury due to burn and electric arc! (see 2.2). Do not disconnect the connectors when the system is operating (see 2.2). Ensure a sufficient protection to avoid contact with conductive parts. Exclusively use tools with appropriate insulation level PV modules interconnection SILLIA s PV modules are designed for connection in series. The module are delivered with 2 cables / connectors (cross section 4mm2 / operating temperature -40 C / +115 C). It s strictly forbidden to remove either the cable(s) or the connectors(s). In case electric extension is necessary: Page 5 sur 7

6 o the cable type has to comply with Solar PV applications and above mentioned specifications, o connectors should be from the same trade marks / type than the ones assembled on the module to perfectly secure electrical connection. In case the connection of different connectors trade mark / type is allowed, SILLIA recommends to get a valid compatibility accreditation from connector s suppliers. During PV modules interconnection, pay attention to the polarity Grounding The aluminium frames have to be connected to the ground, in compliance with valid national specifications and standards. There are drillings Ø6 identified with symbol method below: on frames elements. SILLIA recommends the 1 : fixing screw 2 : connector with ground cable (recommendation: 16mm²) 3 : drilling for grounding 4 : notched locking washer 5 : frame 6 : Grower washer 7 : nut Grounding will be correctly performed applying the following steps: Position of the notched locking washer (4) and the connector with ground cable (2) alligned with the drilling for grounding (3). Insert the fixing screw(1) Position the Grower washer (6) and the nut (7) on the screw (1), then tight the nut, tightening torque about 3Nm. In case of use of different grounding solution, the installer and/or the operator must ensure that the solution is compliant with the specification from the solution manufacturer and compliant with valid national standards and requirements. We remind that : - the anodizing layer must be passed through to get the correct electric contact with the aluminium of the frame, - the materials used must be compatible with aluminium to prevent contact corrosion during the operating life time. 7 4 Electrical features SILLIA s PV modules electric features are available on our website They are designed to be interconnected in serie, the total maximum voltage is 1000V DC. The installer and/or operator must verify and apply the valid national standards and requirements (example: UTE C ) to define the correct number of modules to interconnect. In case such standards or requirements do not exist, the installer and/or operator will define the correct number of modules to interconnect with consideration of the impact of the temperature on the electric behavior of the module. As a remind, the Voc rises as temperature decrease. A protection by fuse might be expected. Installer and/or operator must verify and apply valid national standards and requirements. SILLIA recommends to use a 15A max fuse. 5 Maintenance SILLIA s PV modules require few level of maintenance. We recommend a periodical cleaning to enhance the power output of the PV system. Inclination higher than 10 is recommended to ensure a better auto cleaning of the module thanks to rain water flow on the surface. During periodical cleaning: Use only neutral cleaning liquid, neither abrasive nor corrosive agent is allowed. Temperature of the liquid has to be equivalent to the module temperature. Wipe the surface with a soft and clean cloth. Page 7 sur 7
