3 Message from Directors and Staff Brian Dean, Chair Kalpna Solanki, CEO A new opportunity TO NETWORK with Water & WASTEWATER professionals We asked, you responded, we listened! We asked, and the membership of the EOCP voted overwhelmingly in favour of a tradeshow and conference designed by Operators, for Operators. The EOCP s first-ever biennial tradeshow and conference takes place in Vancouver from the 9th to the 11th of September 2018 at the beautiful Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver. This conference is for Operators who work as Operators, Supervisors, and Managers in the water and wastewater industry across British Columbia and Yukon. This will be a sold-out event with more than 300 attendees and more than 50 exhibitors. With the theme ENQUIRE-LEARN-APPLY, the program is jam packed with one and a half days of tradeshow, overlapping with two full days of training, culminating with an optional third day to catch up on exams. Attendees will walk away with knowledge, networking, and newly acquired skills, plus CEUs that are totally relevant to the profession. We look forward to your participation in this landmark event as a founding participant 2018 is just the beginning, and this event will be back in 2020! A WELL OF LIES an in-depth look at the Walkerton water tragedy Colin Perkel has been a senior journalist with Canada s national news agency, The Canadian Press. Over the past 30 years, he has covered provincial and federal politics, the environment, justice and nationalsecurity issues, and all kinds of assorted mayhem. His work has taken him across Canada, to the United States, Germany, Grenada, South Africa and Guantanamo Bay. He did three tours as a war correspondent in Afghanistan. Colin is the author of Well of Lies, an in-depth look at the Walkerton water tragedy where over a period of a week in May 2000, hundreds of people in Walkerton were afflicted by a deadly strain of E.coli bacteria.
