1. Long Term Urban Development in Partnership with Citizens and Businesses 2.Efficient Energy Use Through Innovation 3. Global Contribution 2

Overview of Yokohama Japan Yokohama Population: 3,720,000 3

City of Yokohama s population trend continuing to expand and grow Population and Households in Yokohama Population Households 2.77millioin (1980) 1.37million (1960)

Yokohama has overcame problems Growth Through Overcoming 5 Major Problems: Environmental Disruption, Waste, Roads and Traffic, Water Resources, Public Areas (Schools) 5

Mayors meeting with 10,000 citizens 6

City Strategy to Create Yokohama in Partnership with Citizens Sustainable City Management Transparency and Accountability Empathy and Trust Innovation Universities Initiatives linked with various entities Citizens Businesses NPOs Government 7

Reduce Waste Disposal Volume by the Citizens Motivation Held over 10,000 resident briefings to encourage waste reduction/recycling (ongoing) Yokohama G30plan (January, 2003) Waste reduction through sorting and recycling Target: Reduce waste by 30% from FY2001 to FY2010 Meetings to explain sorting Goal attained - 5 years earlier than planned - Waste reduced by approx. 40% in 2009 Benefits - Two waste treatment plants became redundant; 110 billion yen saved on construction cost 3 billion yen saved on operational cost Awareness-raising activities with local citizens Yokohama was chosen as one of the Eco 2 Cities (Ecological Cities as Economic Cities) in 2009 by World Bank 8

Renewable energies in Public Facilities Yokohama wind power generation (Hama wing) Biomass power generation (sewerage treatment) (46 million kwh/year) Biomass power generation (waste treatment) (350 million kwh/year) Generates approx. 410 million kwh/year* Hydropower generation(4 locations) *Equivalent to approx. 40% of the electricity used by Yokohama facilities or approx. 110,000 typical households Solar power generation (265locations) 9

The Close Cooperation between Sewage & Solid Waste Management Wastewater Treatment Center Garbage Incinerator Uses power generated in the center Wastewater Treatment Center Generates digestion gas Water processing facilities Uses generated power Sells surplus power Turns digestion gas into fuel Waste Recycling Center Steam turbine generator Generates power using garbage incinerator heat Incinerator Uses digestion gas as fuel Digestion tank Digestion process produces mainly methane gas Supplying digestion gas Supplying surplus power Supplying treated water 10

Concept of FutureCity -Aiming to create the city that everyone wants to live in!- Environmental Value Low Carbon / Energy Conserving /Water / Air Solar Panels Creativity/Challenge Super Aging Society Economic Value Social Value 11

Current YSCP Activities - 1 Yokohama Smart Business Association, a new organization resting on public private partnership (April 2015), in order to create energycirculating city by making use the results of YSCP. The council will promote the operation of energy-control systems and new energy partnership efforts, in addition to spreading of accumulated technology and system at home and abroad Demonstration of YSCP YSCP Promotion Council Implementation of YSCP Yokohama Smart Business Association -Partner companies- Energy suppliers, construction companies, manuf acturers of electrical machinery etc. 15

New Collaboration with Private Companies <8 secretary members> Yokohama Smart Business Association <7 general members> Achievement of an Energy - recycling City Promote local energy production for local consumption We are currently conducting feasibility studies and formulating plans for projects introducing renewable energy and making complete use of electricity, heat and other forms of energy in certain areas. Energy production CGS PV Fuel cell Biomass Heat exchange machine Heat storage tank Heat energy 制御 Energy storage EV Battery Use BEMS to verify public facilit y demand response We are currently verifying adjustment of supply and demand of electric power by power plants through demand response-driven reduction of electric power.
