3 COREX PVT Analysis Introduction COREX Egypt was established in 1987, its PVT Laboratory is based in Cairo within our main Office/Lab Facility which also houses Routine and Special Core Analysis and Reservoir Geology Laboratories. PVT Analysis is the most diverse of the COREX operations. The laboratory is an integrated geosciences establishment where Egyptian operators have become accustomed to delivering the quality of data that clients expect and deserve. Our regional experience is surpassed by no other company in North Africa, having performed PVT studies on wells throughout Egypt, North Africa, Europe and the Middle East. We have extensive experience in the handling and analysis of Gas Condensates of the Nile Delta to the heavy oil predominant in Sudan. COREX s Pressure-Volume-Temperature laboratory offers a comprehensive PVT program for all your reservoir fluid property requirements. Equipped with the latest equipment, our PVT laboratory can provide a complete picture of any hydrocarbon sample. This data is essential for the economics and feasibility of any hydrocarbon reservoir. Our experienced and specially trained staff can provide extremely accurate PVT Analysis, which is vital for calculating precisely the reserves and also for evaluating the value of the reserve. Good PVT data ensures the reservoir is produced and managed in a controlled way, leading ultimately to maximum recovery. Initial Quality Control / Sample Handling COREX Egypt can handle the two main sample types for PVT Analysis; the majority of which are bottom hole samples, the others are from separator samples from DST (Drill Stem Tests) operations or wellhead samples. First and foremost in PVT Analysis, each sample, upon arrival at our Laboratory undergoes validity checks to ensure the samples closely resemble the sampling parameters and therefore can be considered valid. The samples on arrival at the laboratory are routinely transferred to COREX Cylinders. This enables other third party cylinders to be returned to the owners thus reducing cylinder rental costs to the client. Black Oil PVT Analysis Sample Validation followed by selection of most valid sample Compositional Analysis of Reservoir Fluid up to C36+ including non-hydrocarbons for example Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Sulphide. Black Oil Analysis Pressure Volume Relationships at Reservoir Temperature (Saturation presure, Relative Volumes & Compressibility) Differential Vaporization Of Reservoir Fluid At Reservoir Temperature (Oil and Gas Volume Factors, Gas-Oil ratio, Residual Oil density and Gas Gravity) Compositional Analysis Of Gas To Detectable Limits Our PVT laboratory can analyse all types of black oil pressurised samples. When dealing with multiphase samples from separator sampling, i.e. oil and gas, these samples are recombined at the laboratory utilising the Separator GOR to generate the reservoir fluid. This stage is not required for Bottom hole samples as they already contain the Reservoir Fluid. Dedicated Gas Chromatography Tel: ; pvtcorex@link.net 3

4 COREX PVT Analysis PVT Analysis of Critical Fluids (Volatile Oils & Rich Condensates) Critical/Volatile oils have a different type of phase envelope than black oils due to the high solution gas. This gas is evolved abundantly below the bubble point, thus having substantial gas flow at the surface. Therefore conventional Differential Vapourisation does not really represent the behavior of the volatile oil in the reservoir or at surface. These oils more or less behave like gas condensates. Therefore a Constant Volume Depletion (CVD) is more appropriate for these type of fluids. Typical Volatile Oil PVT Analysis includes: Volatile Oil PVT Analysis Sample Validation followed by selection of most valid sample Compositional Analysis of Reservoir Fluid up to C36+ including non-hydrocarbons like Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Sulphide Physical Recombination if surface samples are taken Constant Composition Expansion Measurement Constant Volume Depletion Analysis Viscosity of live fluid at reservoir temperature Single or Multistage Separation tests which can provide useful parameters to build the surface separation facility to get maximum oil recovery Gas Condensate PVT Analysis Gas Condensate Cell Sample Validation followed by selection of most valid sample Compositional Analysis of Reservoir Fluid up to C36+ including non-hydrocarbons like Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Sulphide Physical Recombination if surface samples are taken Retrograde Dew Point measurement at reservoir temperature Pressure - Volume Relations, Including Dew Point PV Relation and Specific Volume Retrograde Liquid Volumes Below Dew Point Pressure Constant Volume Depletion at reservoir temperature Crude Oil Analysis COREX PVT Laboratory offers a full suite of basic crude oil analysis to recoqnised industry standards: Viscosity Water Cut Pour Point Flash Point Salt Content ASTM Distlliation Sulphur Content Wax Content Asphaltene Content Water Analysis Pressurised Viscometer Standard oilfield water analysis utilising wet chemistry and spectrometric analysis techniques; offering: Standard 10 Ion API Analysis Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Barium, Iron, Hydroxyl, Carbonate, Bicarbonate, Sulphate and Chloride plus H, Resistivity, S.G. and T.D.S. 4 Tel: ; pvtcorex@link.net

5 COREX PVT Analysis Wellsite Services At COREX we are also able to supply on-site PVT Services in the form of on-site surface sampling and consultancy services. Key PVT Laboratory Equipment Liquid Chromatographs Measures up to C36+ Gas Chromatographs Measures Organic and Non-Organic gases to C20+ hand built to COREX Specification Density Meters Gasometers Pressurised Viscometers Gas Condensate Cell Black Oil Cells Motorised PVT Pumps Spectrophotometers Plus other associated analytical equipments The Personnel COREX s PVT laboratory is run by well trained and highly experienced staff, within a defined organisational structure. In-house training is given to all. Key Personnel: William Tauro PVT Manager Mohamed El Latif Hassan PVT Laboratory Supervisor Location and Contact Information Quality Control / Data Integrity The science of PVT analysis is not precise; the data has to be smoothed, with duplicate analysis performed on a regular basis for quality control. COREX uses mass and molar balance equations and other quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of data, it s accuracy and consistency. COREX Services Limited 176, Sector No. 6th, Industrial Area, Zahraa El Maadi, Helwan, Egypt Tel: /7 Fax: pvtcorex@link.net Client Training COREX, at the request of the Client, offers a short 5 day course in PVT Analysis. A comprehensive course covering, but not limited to the analyses listed above, which is geared to give Oil Company staff a basic understanding of the principles of PVT Analysis.
