2 The Energy Service of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has the overall responsibility of Energy in Cyprus and specifically for: Monitoring and coordinating the supply and availability of sufficient energy capacity for domestic needs. Monitoring and participating in the formation of the European Policy for energy issues. Suggesting ways for the implementation of the European Acquis, assists in the preparation of Laws, Regulations, Rules etc. and implements programs for their promotion. Preparing and implementing programs for energy conservation, the promotion of renewable energy source (RES) and the developing of technologies for the utilization of RES Assisting the Government in the formation of the national energy policy for Cyprus in coordination with all other bodies involved.

3 Renewable Energy Cyprus energy aims to promote renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, biomass and small hydrocarbons. In May 2012, the Special Fund Management Committee od Renewable Energy Sources and Energy savings ( Special Fund Management Committee ) announced the launch a number of support scheme in order to encourage electricity generation from large commercial wind, solar photovoltaic systems and biomass utilization; the use of renewable energy sources for physical persons and organizations to the extent that they do not carry out economic activities and the use of renewable energy sources for physical and legal persons as well as public sector bodies that carry out economic activities. Total electricity from RES in Cyprus reached 181 MW in May The objective, as per the National Action Plan issued by the Ministry of Energy, Industry, Commerce & Tourism, is to reach a minimum capacity in Cyprus and 3% higher than the target set by the EU.

5 SOLAR POWER IN CYPRUS Solar power in Cyprus is more available than in almost all of the rest Europe. The Cypriot target of solar power both photovoltaics and concentrated solar power is a combined 7% of electricity by 2020, which will be one of the top ones in the European Union markets. Solar heating is a usage of solar energy to provide space or water heating. Solar heating per capita in 2010 was the highest in Cyprus of all European countries. The Cypriot Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) announced a number of steps, aimed at facilitating development of Photovoltaics in Cyprus. Among them is the large-scale application of Net metering. CERA aims to reduce electricity prices for the households where net metering is applied, via fuel saving and carbon dioxide reduction. Cyprus introduces net metering as pilot program in The program concerns selected governmental buildings and a few communities only. Its goal was to gain significant experience and knowledge on how to run the electricity grid using net metering.

6 Installation progress of Solar PV Panels For solar PV panels installed on the roof or on the ground of a residential buildings they must be according to the provision of circular 3/ 2008: Harmoniously integrated into the shell of the building On slopping roof all the panels must be adjoined except when the building has two or more sloppings If a solar PV system installed in a horizontal roof the height of the panel must not exceed the 1,20m Small photovoltaics systems (<100 Kw) that are installed on the ground to cover supplement the electricity demand of a current building, will be viewed positively by the planning authority if: Installed are height up to 1,20m form the natural ground with surface up to 25m 2 Installed on individual bases with a height that do not exceed the height of the specific legal residential house or building of a height of 4.5m with total area less than 15m 2
