Envirosponsible Nexterra manufacturing utilises 100% Renewable Green energy Credits. All power for production is drawn 100% from renewable green energy, ie the wind. Zero Waste Water - Nexterra tile backing does not require water in the production process. All face fibre yarn is Solution Dyed, therefore does not require the enormous quantities of water used for traditional piece dyeing. Nexterra contains no PVC. 100% Closed Loop Recyclable so the environmental gains can continue indefinitely: 85% post-consumer recycled backing content (each tile contains 2lbs of post-consumer recycled content) Min 25% recycled face fibre content 100% green energy in the manufacturing process 100% waste trims & scraps sold to recycling facilities 100% take-back service for re-use elsewhere. At the end of the lifecycle, Nexterra tiles can be recycled back into Nexterra.

Features & Benefits Performance Excellent performance in dry/wet tuft bind retention, dimensionally stable and withstands heavy foot traffic. 50% Stronger Recycled content makes Nexterra 50% stronger than conventional carpet tile backing with vastly improved tuft bind performance, ie can withstand over 1,000,000 foot traffic tests without quality loss. Lowers VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) Another environmentally-friendly innovative technology that withstands both wear and repeated cleanings. Independent testing shows Puralex reduces total VOC emissions 25-40% by absorbing odours from the air indoors. Lighter Lighter than other tiles making it easier to install & significantly reduces transportation costs. Warranties Lifetime warranties (as long as it remains installed in the original location and owned by the original purchaser) against wear, tuft bind, pilling & fuzzing delamination, edge ravel, zippering, static propensity and dimensional stability.

Irvine International s Carpet Tile Take Back Service Where existing carpet or carpet tiles are to be replaced with Irvine International floorcovering products, we offer a Take Back Service. This involves our managing the process of uplifting existing carpet or carpet tiles that still have some life left in them, and finding a new installation environment in which they can be re-used. The product which is being replaced is offered free to Community Groups and the role Irvine International plays is in co-ordinating its uplift and finding an appropriate benefactor. In addition, all our quotations for projects involving carpet tiles include maintenance stock to cover the rotation and replacement of worn tiles. Irvine International believe it is in the practice of acting locally that we can make our country and the world a better and more sustainable place. Irvine International, in conjunction with Dominion Funds, recently offered approximately 900 square metres of used carpet tiles free-of-charge to members of the Christian Supply Chain for use on their commercial projects. Christian Children s Camps 'Camp Columba' and 'Chosen Valley' were the grateful recipients, as well as Victory Outreach Church. These 900 sqm of tiles were uplifted during a refurbishment project in Penrose Auckland, which was being managed by Dominion Funds. The tiles were made from Solution Dyed Nylon and in extremely good order. Irvine International arranged for the contractor to uplift the tiles and stack them on pallets ready for freighting. The Christian Supply Chain only had to pay the freight charges to their destination. As Chris Jereb of Dominion Funds explains It only cost a little more to have the contractors place the carpet tiles onto pallets, rather than throw them into a waste bin. We didn't incur any dumping fees and we were happy to supply a couple of car spaces in order to store the tiles. Daniel Bailey, Assistant Manager of the Chosen Valley Christian Camp, writes: "We are very grateful for the tiles. The room has become much warmer and we can now use it for various other activities too. So, thanks again Ian and Irvine International for blessing Chosen Valley Christian Camp." Both Irvine International Floors and Dominion Funds are members of The New Zealand Green Building Council. Dominion Funds, in conjunction with the Ministry for the Environment, Building Research, Kiwi Income Property Trust and Multiplex funded The NZ Green Star Rating System. Dominion Funds seek to actively align themselves with NZGBC suppliers that are not only gaining Environmental Choice Accreditation, but have hands-on practical environmental policies.

Real & measurable goals towards protecting the natural environment Investment in Green Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). Beaulieu Commercial became the first commercial carpet manufacturer to buy 100% Green Renewable Energy Credits for all commercial facilities. All power for production is from renewable green energy sources, ie wind. All Renewable Energy Credits Beaulieu Commercial purchases are third party certified. Waste Reduction and Landfill Diversions Beaulieu Commercial currently uses two pounds of waste for every pound they generate. Over 110 million pounds (1.9 billion 16oz plastic bottles) of PET bottles and 2 million pounds of glass are recycled into fibre each year, which would otherwise take around 700 years to decompose. In the first 9 months of 2007, they recycled over 38 million pounds of post-industrial waste that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill. All waste trims and scraps are sold to recycling facilities: Each year 8.5 million pounds of selvedge edge trimmings and one million pounds of hard-back seam cuts are down-cycled into carpet padding and/or filler for use in building materials and outdoor furniture. 1.5 million pounds of shear lint material is re-melted each year to produce fibres and/or reprocessed into filler for other industries. 6 million pounds of scrap nylon is recycled annually from tufting beams and creels, then turned back into Type 6 nylon fibre and/or fillers for use in other industries.

Energy Usage Beaulieu Commercial continually work to lower the amount of energy it takes to produce their products. They have been 26% more energy efficient during the past 12 months than the previous year. Electricity is the greatest producer of green house gas, playing an active role in global warming. Beaulieu Commercial invests in RECs to lessen the indirect role in green house emissions. Water Reduction Beaulieu Commercial have had an approximate 40% reduction in water usage by reclaiming and recycling waste water from the carpet manufacturing process. Nexterra tile backing does not require any water in the production process. At their sister facility, all water brought into the plant is recycled and then released back to the city where it is re-treated for public use. They currently have zero waste water. Indoor Air Quality Beaulieu Commercial is the only carpet manufacturer offering Puralex, an odour neutraliser that lowers VOCs and helps purify the air indoors. Independent testing using EPA approved methods shows Puralex reduces total VOC emissions by 25-40% by absorbing odours from the air indoors.

Awards & Affiliations 2003 Beaulieu Commercial was named Environmental Supplier of the Year by Home Depot Nexterra backing earns the prestigious Grand Prize for Environmental Solutions presented at the NeoCon World Trade Fair by Buildings Magazine Beaulieu Commercial joined the P 2 AD Partnership Program of the Pollution Prevention Assistance Division, a non-regulatory arm of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, to help prevent or minimise pollution. All Beaulieu Commercial carpets pass the CRI Green Label Plus Indoor Air Quality testing program. The Beaulieu Group is reviewing carpet reclamation opportunities and educational programs with the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE). The Royston Plant was named the 2006 Plant of the Year for Pollution Prevention and Waste Minimisation by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals.

From: Spotlight Creative Media Sent: Sunday, 2 November :52 p.m. Subject: Wind powered carpet From Environmental Choice New Zealand - a thought starter! Wind-powered carpet "conquers Everest" Products marketed in New Zealand and made by the world s largest privately-owned carpet company have now passed one of the highest-rated environmental assessments in the world product certification by Environmental Choice New Zealand. The Kiwi eco-label has been classed as one of the world s most robust in terms of its processes for proving products environmentally preferable, and Irvine International s Nexterra carpet tiles have just received certification after an 11-month period of assessment. We feel as though we ve reached the top of Mt Everest, says Trace Church, marketing manager of Irvine International. The intensive scrutiny of Environmental Choice New Zealand scientists and assessors did not stop with the product, says Trace Church. Irvine International s offices and warehousing and distribution operations all had to meet ECNZ s stringent standards of sustainability and environmental performance. It is a hands-on approach to environmentally-sensitive practices which substantiates that the company s walk actually matches their talk, says Trace Church. For example we offer a nationwide Take Back Service. This means that, where Irvine International product has been chosen to replace existing carpet or carpet tiles, we will co-ordinate the uplift of those which still have some life left in them and offer them free to Community Groups to re-use where a change of floor covering is needed. We deliberately choose to work with manufacturing partners that share the same commitment to determined action that directly reduces the impact on the environment, rather than what we consider the soft option of appeasing one s environmental conscience by offsetting with carbon credits. The Nexterra tiles are made for us by major American company Beaulieu Commercial in a factory that is powered by 100% wind energy the only factory in our industry that can claim this. Irvine International s Nexterra Carpet Tiles considerably exceed the criteria of even the ECNZ specification. Not only is the synthetic fibre extruded on the manufacturer s premises (vertical integration), but it contains a minimum of 25 percent post-industrial recycled content more than double the requirement. The criteria for the backing is a minimum of 25 percent recycled content and the tiles contain 85 percent post-consumer recycled content by backing weight. (Unlike postindustrial, which is waste produced during manufacturing, post-consumer recycled content has been rescued from ever reaching landfill). The general manager of Environmental Choice, Robin Taylor, says it is becoming increasingly easy to base design, building and refurbishment in New Zealand on the selection of certified products. We now list around a thousand products, from household cleaners to office equipment. From bathroom to boardroom, from floor to ceiling, an environmentally better purchase is as simple as logging on to environmentalchoice.org.nz. Consumers and businesses now expect suppliers to have sound sustainability credentials, and ECNZ, which is owned and backed by the government, is an acknowledged global leader in ecolabelling.

Irvine International has staff bases in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, and Trace Church says they are noting an increasing environmentally-educated purchasing and specifier community in government and business. With the recent announcement by European governments of Environmental Choice as a world-leading standard, Trace Church says the flooring company is unequivocal in its pride at the mountain-top achievement. The robust process undertaken to reach ECNZ certification is the reason this is fast becoming recognised by flooring manufacturers around the world as the most coveted environmental and sustainability benchmark for their products. In the assessment process, which has taken us 11 months work, we have gained a huge amount of knowledge. We see this certification as local endorsement of the direction in which Irvine International and our manufacturing partners have been heading for many years. Our goal now is to pursue Environmental Choice certification for all our product ranges. 13 Additional Third Party Testing & Certifications All Nexterra tile products have been certified at Platinum Level with NSF/ANSI This is the Standard's highest and most rigorous certification level and Beaulieu Commercial is the first carpet manufacturer to have products certified by NSF International to this new NSF/ANSI std. NB: This organisation has international accreditation status and is recognised by the NZ Enviro- Choice independent assessors as an accredited ISO14001 certifier. Third-party certification (LCA) of all Beaulieu Commerical's tile products has been awarded by Five Winds International, an independent laboratory. Upon completion of certifying tile products, Beaulieu will submit broadloom products to NSF for the NSF-140 certification (ISO14001). Beaulieu Commercial researches through third parties to find better ways of using recycled content with less energy than to produce products from virgin materials. All broadloom and carpet tiles pass the CRI (Carpet & Rug Institutes) Indoor Air Quality Testing protocol.
