11 Objective: Energy Efficiency Reduce the overall energy consumption and offset 100% of the energy consumed during the event

12 Outcome: Energy Efficiency Renewable energy was sourced through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). In 2017, 11 REC s were purchased from Pretoria Zoo in Gauteng to power the show. Exhibitors could buy Mini Recs Energy efficient lights (LEDs). Encouraging all exhibitors to turn off the power to their stands at the end of each day.

15 Objective: Water conservation Raise awareness around responsible water consumption

16 Outcome: Water conservation water coolers, biodegradable cups surcharge on bottled water surcharge used in carbon-offset programme. In 2017, a total of 104 bottles of water were sold, which contributed to the planting of 8 trees

18 Objective: Eco Procurement Ensure that 100% of gifts were locally manufactured using sustainable resources

26 Objective: Transport Management Limit carbon emissions Offset some of our own transport related carbon emissions

27 Outcome: Transport Management Voluntary carbon offset programme 126 trees were purchased by exhibitors and suppliers in support of Meetings Africa s sustainable programme. Tweet for a Tree campaign was introduced. For every 10 tweets using the #MeetingsAfrica17 a tree was donated to the offset programme. This initiative raised 68 trees. Promote use of Gautrain Current year no offsite event Direct Flights training JHB-CT-DBN instead of JHB-CT X2 and JHB-DBN x2

Each of the preferred hotels were required to: Sign the 2017 Meetings Africa Pledge Supply their Sustainability Policy Accommodation Questionnaire onsite site inspection was done to validate the above information Winner for 2017 was Radisson Blu Sandton

35 Objective: Communication and Marketing Collateral Ensure that the event greening efforts were well communicated and marketed to appropriate target groups.

36 Outcome: Communication and Marketing Collateral Event Greening Forum / Meetings Africa/ Africa Tourism Indaba training Greening tips were loaded to the website and sent to all exhibitors in mailshots. Green stand awards Fabric Shall Scheme
