4 TECHNOLOGY The Asano Vertical Roller Mill is a mill originally developed by Nihon Cement Co. Ltd. the largest cement producer in Japan. It is named after their founder Mr. Soichiro Asano and utilizes the cream of their technology developed over 100 years of cement production. * ASANOTEC Ltd. ( Engineering Division of the erstwhile Nihon Cement Company) in the Year 2000 merged with the engineering division of two major Industrial houses of Japan namely Onoda Engineering Co. Ltd., and CHICHIBU Engineering & Consulting Co. Ltd. The merged company is now known as Taiheiyo Engineering Corporation (TEC). This mill, which is designed from the standpoint of the user, features outstanding efficiency and safety and requires minimum maintenance. It incorporates a wealth of know how based on vast amount of data. The Asano Vertical Roller Mill which performs grinding and drying simultaneously, comes as a series in various sizes. It is used in many fields of application such as cement raw materials, coal, slag, bauxite and other mineral grinding. MANUFACTURE PROMAC, established more than three decades ago, is one of the leading heavy engineering industries in India, with expertise in the manufacture and supply of specialized heavy equipments and process plants on turnkey basis. Promac has complete design, manufacture and installation capabilities under one roof. Promac has an exclusive technical collaboration with Taiheiyo Engineering Corporation, Japan for the manufacture of Asano Vertical Roller Mills, in India to the high quality standards set by their collaborators.

5 WORKING PRINCIPLE The Asano Vertical Roller Mill (AVM) performs simultaneous operations such as blending, grinding, classifying and conveying through air flow. The construction of Asano Vertical Roller Mills varies for larger and smaller capacities to make it cost effective without sacrificing the efficiency and performance of the mill. The material is fed on to the center of the table by a feed chute at a constant rate. The rotating table spreads the material across and the material is crushed and ground between the table and the rollers. The material is ground to the required fineness by controlling the grinding force with the help of hydraulic pressure. The ground material is dried continuously with hot air during grinding and pneumatically lifted up to the classifier along with the air flow. The product is classified to the required particle size in the classifier before it passes along with the air flow through the gas duct. The coarse size material from the classifier falls on to the table for further grinding. The particle size of the product can be achieved easily by varying the speed of the classifier rotor with the help of variable speed drive unit. 6 GRINDING SYSTEM WITHOUT EXTERNAL MATERIAL RE-CIRCULATION CAPACITY CHART FOR CEMENT RAW MATERIAL GRINDING This system is designed, with high velocity gases entering the mill through the nozzle ring which lifts up the complete ground material ( consisting of fine and coarse ) from the table to the classifier, thus eliminating material circulation through nozzle ring. However, this system leads to high pressure drop across the mill necessitating a circulating fan with higher pressure and power demand. GRINDING SYSTEM WITH EXTERNAL MATERIAL RE-CIRCULATION CAPACITY IN TPH (BASED ON BOND S WORK INDEX & PRODUCT FINENESS) CAPACITY CHART FOR COAL GRINDING This system is designed, for optimum velocity gases entering the mill through the nozzle ring and lift up only the ground material along with fine grit upto the classifier and the course material falls through the nozzle ring. Hence this system needs external material circulation arrangement as the quantity of circulating material will be substantial. 7 PROMAC is the first company in India to manufacture Vertical Roller mills 100 % indigenously with complete drawings and material specifications furnished by their collaborators, Taiheiyo Engineering Corporation, Japan. The mills are built to the specification and accuracy standards specified by Taiheiyo Engineering Corporation, Japan. With the exception of the large size mill main gear reducers which are imported, the mills are fabricated, machined and assembled at Promac's own manufacturing shop. All other standard components are procured indigenously. The very special alloy wear parts such as roller tyres, table liners and shell liners which are specially developed by Nihon Cement for this purpose are usually procured from reputed alloy steel foundries. Promac has an added advantage over its competitors in India, as, it has set up, at its works, a full scale Asano Vertical Roller Test Mill for grinding samples of cement raw materials, coal, pet coke and other minerals in order to check the grindability & power consumption figures. Thus Promac is in a position to offer its esteemed customers an optimum size of Asano Vertical Roller Mill with required guarantee of output and power consumption. The mills are very cost effective being 100% indigenous keeping the high quality standards and workmanship prescribed by their foreign collaborators. 8 SHOP ASSEMBLY The Asano Vertical Roller Mills are assembled in the workshop to ensure easy installation at site which will also assure minimum erection time and efficient operation.

9 1. High Grinding Efficiency The Rollers and Table Liners have been designed considering the material to be ground. As a result, high grinding efficiency can be obtained with low power consumption. 2. Low Power Cost Compared with a ball mill, the electrical power consumed per unit quantiy of raw material is extremely low and moreover the required installation area is much less. 3. Simultaneous Drying, Grinding and Classifying While the raw material is being ground, it also dried by the hot air drawn into the mill and classified by the inbuilt classifier. 4. Wide Particle Size Control Range The adoption of a variable speed high efficiency 3rd generation cage type rotary classifier enables the particle size to be easily controlled over a wide range. 5. Low Noise and Vibration No contact of metal parts enables very low vibration and noise level. GRINDING ROLLER TYPE 6. Ease of Maintenance Careful attention has been paid to reduce maintenance work. For example, a hydraulic roller take-out unit is employed to facilitate roller replacement. 7. Use of Highly Wear Resistant Rollers and Table Liners Nihon cement has developed a special high chromium cast steel Asano Hard for the rollers and Asano Tough for the table liners which are the wear parts. The wear resistance of these rollers and table liners are superior. Similar special castings are now procured indigenously from Alloy Steel Foundries. 8.
