1 WHY ARE WE HERE? There are three applications for amendment to Adjala/Tosorontio from the Nelson Aggregate Company (LaFarge): 1. Pit to allow extraction of sand and gravel from below the established water table. We had 45 days to object by letter to Nelson and Ministry of Natural Resources. Result = 164 letters! - Nelson needs to resolve our objections individually by registered post within two years. 2. For amendment to the Official Plan under 22(4) of the Planning Act to redesignate Protected Aggregate Resources to a licensed pit to permit a Class A Category 1 Aggregate Operation. 3. For amendment under Section 34 of the Planning Act to rezone M3 Protected Aggregate Resources to M2 Extractive Industrial Zone.

6 AGENCIES LETTERS OF OBJECTION - EXTRACTS Quotes NVCA: would advise that at this point in time more information is required from the applicant to demonstrate that the proposal is appropriately protected from natural hazards and it will not result in adverse impacts to the area s natural heritage features water courses, wet lands, and groundwater resources. MNR: We must object to this application until the above noted information [their 27 objections] has been provided and we are satisfied that appropriate preventative, mitigative and remedial measures will be taken with respect to the protection of natural heritage features. County of Simcoe: On February 3, No review has been completed at this date because The County of Simcoe required that a Site Plan Review Form be completed for review of the application. Nelson Aggregates has yet to meet this obligation. The following conditions would have to be met: - the widening of County Road 13 by 4.25 metres - road allowance widening to provide 15.25m right-of-way from County Road 13

9 The Places to Grow OPA15 planned expansion of Everett is close to this proposed below water table gravel pit/recycling centre. Just how close will this be located to Everett, and will the quantity and quality of water be affected? Will there be sufficient water to service a community without creating a pipeline to Georgian Bay? (which will never happen) For the record, is there any member of council who may have the appearance of a conflict of interest with regards to this application, or the owner of the land?
