2 Our history Climate protection and progress as dynamic base of our technology. The history of our company already began before the founding year The present company BSH Umweltservice AG developed from the innovative core of the Environmental Technology Division vonroll Umwelttechnik AG (today Hitachi Zosen Inova, Zurich), which was later expanded with the Wastewater Treatment Technology Division of Ammann/AVESCO. Today, the experiences collected over decades are a solid base for future developments. In the meantime our company is a pioneer for «State of the Art» environmental technologies. As independent and autonomous engineering firm in the sector of plant engineering we develop complex procedural solutions for the sectors of waste, sewage, waste gas and residue treatment. Our company operates successfully in the Swiss market as well as in the adjacent foreign countries. Sustainable solutions for energy and resource recovery are our challenge. 2

3 Our range of services Innovative process technologies are our strength. We offer a broad portfolio of processes in the wet-chemical sector as well as in mechanical process engineering for the environmental and construction industry. In doing so, we draw on the know-how and the long-term experience from our corporate tradition in thermal disposal. Through the takeover and integration of the former Wastewater Treatment Technology Department of Ammann/AVESCO into BSH Umweltservice AG we were able to expand our portfolio in 2014 and successfully expand our process technology in the sector of excavated soil (contaminated/ not contaminated) for the construction industry sector of mineral processing. 4 Research & Development The best preparation for tomorrow is to do the very best today. We constantly conduct research into new, innovative technology solutions. Research and development have always been an important part of our work. BSH Umweltservice AG invests annually in new technology developments as well as the optimisation and further development of existing systems, components and processes. Our efforts are systematically directed towards new processes, which can replace the common processes to increase the innovative strength, and towards existing processes and methods to make operations more efficient and to reduce material and energy requirements. Our systems embody sustainability, a true benefit for the economy, energy and the environment. 4

5 Laboratory and analysis technology Quality is never a coincidence. It is always the product of courage, hard work and the commitment of clever minds. Our customers are increasingly being confronted with more stringent guidelines, laws and changes in the legal environmental, water and waste-related provisions. The market therefore demands more safety in the disposal systems. Our long-standing and highly qualified team plans and builds customer-specific and technologically pioneering overall solutions for residual materials treatment as well as for excavated material, sludge and wastewater treatment. With the support from our laboratory, our environmental and process engineers develop new and improved processes and products, which are an expression of innovation, sustainability and long-term experience. Thanks to our own, independent laboratory we are always able to conduct expert laboratory and operational analyses and to support and look after our customers competently with trouble-shooting as well as with process and operation optimisations. We employ different analytical methods (water, solid substances), which are used successfully when optimising the existing processes and also when employing new process developments (chromate removal, Leachphos). 7 FLUWA method (BSH-Fly Ash Washing) The acidic filter and fly ash washing (FLUWA method) is the centrepiece of our BSH technology. After mercury separation in the acid washing water, zinc, copper, cadmium, lead and other metals are removed efficiently from the filter and fly ash in the extraction process. As a result, secondary raw materials are produced. The residual fly ash can be disposed of after the treatment, together with the slag, environmentally friendly and trouble-free on a landfill. Mercury separation (BSH-Mercury-Ion process) Our BSH Mercury-Ion process consists of a pre-filtration (candle filter) and selective mercury-ion exchanger columns which effect an intense separation of mercury from the waste treatment plant. The size of the employed components is always governed by the volume of wastewater to be treated. In the process, about 98% of the mercury brought into the waste incineration is removed and thereby the values in the wastewater clearly fall short of the legal limit. An environmentally correct method, which can find broad applications in various industry sectors. Wastewater treatment (ABA) In the process of our BSH wastewater treatment (ABA) the heavy metals contained in the wastewater are precipitated as metal hydroxides and efficiently separated. The resulting hydroxide sludge is drained via filtration systems and in the case of a preceding FLUWA process, supplied to a metal plant as secondary raw material for the production of zinc. The wastewater filtered by our treatment, which is therefore free of heavy metals, corresponds to the water protection regulations and can be introduced trouble-free into the water discharge system. Phosphorus recovery (BSH-Leachphos) The BSH Leachphos process is a wet-chemical phosphorus recycling process of municipal sewage sludge ash from mono-combustion. In the extraction process, raw phosphorus is precipitated reductively from the sewage sludge ash by means of diluted mineral acid. The phosphorus is processed to fertilizer or phosphoric acid in further steps, which corresponds to the environmental law requirements according to the fertilizer legislation and supports the principles of the recycling economy. Elimination of micro pollutants (PAC-Filtration) For the further municipal wastewater treatment our company has developed an independent process technology, the PAC filtration. In this process, the micro pollutants adsorb on the surface of the activated carbon and are eliminated together with the activated carbon. The process stands in combination with a subsequent efficient cake filtration via candle filters. In addition to the loaded PAC, practically all undissolved solids are retained to <1mg/l and therefore more than 80 % of all trace substances are eliminated separately from the wastewater. Our already successfully tested technology supports the high societal aspiration on the protection of our waters and keeping them clean. 14 Industry Productivity and resource efficiency for the construction industry. We develop state-of-the-art turnkey plants and components for the processing of minerals. The focus is on the construction industry, sector stones and earths, as well as concrete plants, soil washing plants and drilling sludge treatment. We supply top-performing treatment systems for the sector of street collector sludges and street sweeping material. The legislator demands an environmentally compatible preparation and treatment of all construction waste. With our modern process and treatment technology we can plan, build, as well as modify and retrofit both stationary and mobile treatment plants in a customized manner, thereby fulfilling the high environmental und market requirements in terms of quality. 14

15 Excavated material processing plants The BSH wet-chemical know-how, combined with the internal laboratory, allows finding economic solutions even for complex contaminations (mineral oils, organic contaminants, chromium VI, lead and other heavy metals). Our company supplies flexible process technologies, which treat excavated and soil materials and return them specifically to the cycle of materials. Drilling mud & Street sweeping material treatment BSH employs various processes and efficient components to achieve a sustainable separation of the coarse materials and dewatering of soil sludges for drilling muds and street collector sludges. Arising coarse materials and sands are separated by a classic screening/cyclone system and delivered with a slide via the dewatering screen. After the cyclone system, the excess water is fed to the sludge water tank. Process Water Treatment technology The BSH treatment technology is flexible and designed as modular system, to treat industrial sludge efficiently. Our fully automatic treatment system can be expanded or retrofitted modularly as desired, depending on economic need and requirement. Centrepiece is the clarifier. Its structure is functionally designed in such a way that the inoculated water can reach the cone of the system directly, where an effective sedimentation of the sludges takes place. Special agitators ensure a stable homogenisation of the sludges. A modular designed cake dissolving system creates safe press evacuations. The continuous density and sedimentation measurement monitors the optimum sludge thickening and guarantees short processing times as well as a minimal flocculant consumption. The clarified water flows in a closed circuit and can be reused specifically for all washing and dilution processes. Our BSH treatment technology creates effective and sustainably closed material cycles. Drainage systems The sludge dewatering is an important stage of each treatment plant and each process water system. Various processes and components are available for this. Our broad store of knowledge and our long-term experience help us to determine and employ the most suitable components as well as the most tested application technologies to create a high-performance overall system. A drainage system usually consists of a buffer silo, mix tank and a filtration unit. Proven technology for a successful drainage is the chamber filter press which has a homogenising tank connected upstream. Fully automatic presses are used for the complete flushing process.
